OT | Back to work!

Postby Jeremey » Wed May 14, 2008 11:07 pm

:?

Well, some of you know I've been off of work since 4/29 recovering from sinus surgery, and today I'm finally back at work sitting in my office for the first time in two weeks. Yecghh....

So I'll be "catching up" the next couple of days in my office, splitting time between putting out fires and madly posting on Melodicrock.com.

So here's just a silly bullshit thread. Just wanted to say hi. We can play "Ask Jeremey" today if anyone wants to. Anything to kill.....the......monotony...... :x

The difference is? I bet none of us has a hit record we co-authored being played across the country, climbing up the charts while we are sitting behind our desks.

Welcome back! Sinuses suck!

Oh yeah...I forgot about that.... :D Thanks for putting a smile on my face!

Sinuses do suck....Luckily mine should be sucking much more air these days, as the two giant pipelines known as my nostrils are now clear as day, and full of fresh clean oxygen.

I have a deviated septum that I need to get fixed, too. Just can't bring myself to do it. I hate going under the knife.

Glad you're back in action, J. Do you anticipate any changes in your singing voice? I would hate for you to sound like William Hung now.

Dude...

1) Go ahead and get it fixed. Aside from congestion and mild discomfort, it is NOT a big deal...That's what they make Lortab for.

2) I anticipate having a lot more breath support and maybe a little bit of clarity. One thing I've noticed already is that over the past couple of years, at certain points in my transition from chest voice to head voice, my tone gets very pinched and resonant in my nasal passages. I have noticed during rehearsals this past week that this appears to be gone now and the higher notes this would happen ("night" on DSB, etc) are now fully resonating in my chest once again and sounding very "full voice." I'm pretty optimistic that this will be an overall improvement....The polyp supposedly has been there for years, due to it's size, and of course I've always had a deviated septum that's now been repaired, so actually my voice will be dealing with a totally different instrument for the first time ever. Any changes I anticipate should only be for the best.

I have a deviated septum as well but the ENT I went to told me that as long as it's not causing breathing problems, there's no sense in having anything done.

I have recently begun getting sinus infections, and the doc says the operation would help eliminate most of them. Plus I snore like a mofo.

I would hope that he would be willing to shake my hand, and I'd just thank him for all of the inspiration he's given me through the years. Then I'd ask him if he's seen any good movies lately!

Ice cream. Edy's Raspberry Chocalate Chip "Lite" (yeah right), with Magic Shell and Hershey's Kissables sprinkled on top. This is the difference in the last ten pounds I'm trying to get rid of. Anytime there's anything cool on TV (Survivor finale, a new movie rental, etc) is an excuse to buy another carton, and then I live in guilt for the next 3 days trying to finish it off.

Yeah, mine was corrected mainly due to recurring sinus infections during allergy season, which makes a huge difference. Plus it's a huge help for snoring...

Funny you should mention, I believe today is the one year anniversary that I got the first call from Jonathan Cain, telling me he was taking Neal and flying into Charlotte later in the week to see a show. I remember clearly, because I was taking my pregnant wife to UNC Medical Center to get some help with her terrifying pregnancy complications, and we couldn't communicate except for writing to one another in the car. I came across a few of those notebooks a couple weeks ago...It was pretty sad reading in hindsight, for a number of reasons.

All day long....

Favorite thing right now is that he's learned to clap his hands, so we've been doing Pattycake the past day or so...Plus Sabrina just called as I'm typing this to say that Q's started saying "ma ma" this morning!

I know that's probably a sore issue with lots here. The truth is right after that offer went out, a whole lot of things started happening around here and I've been getting by on promises and borrowed time since then. After June 1st things should begin to smooth out and then I hope to get at least some of these out, if not all, so people can burn and trade on their own if they want to.

I almost remembered to bring yours to Baltimore, NIG. I hope to get the "trade circle" going before too long. You'll be on the short list.

Jeremey...a few questions.

First of all, are you using your natural voice at the very end of "Mother, Father"? (I.E. the final 16 measures.)

Any chance you'll add "If He Should Break Your Heart" to the setlist?

And what is the most difficult Journey song you've covered?
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I had the same problem but I've been using Nasacort, a steroid nasal spray and have had no problems at all since I started using it earlier this year. I had chronic sinus issues for at least the last 9 years or so before this.

Perry did that and I do it, when I can, in what I guess you would call an altissimo voice. It is not a falsetto, but a very high voice pitched above a head voice. It's something that has to come naturally, and in the course of a three hour performance it gets hard to predict what your voice will do when you throw it into that register, so I'd usually test the first notes then revert to falsetto if necessary. I can pull off the altissimo in practice/studio pretty easily still, but the rigors of a live performance with all that stage volume and stress on your voice make it a risky proposition.

Any chance you'll add "If He Should Break Your Heart" to the setlist?

We have a couple "new" songs we're working in as we transition the new players but that won't be one of them.

And what is the most difficult Journey song you've covered?

Probably Mother, Father. It's just a sustained emotional tantrum, and it's very difficult to keep the technical side of it under control while still letting out what needs to come out during that performance.

Closest we'll be is Bloomington IN later next month, but we do have a big target on Chicago right now. We had an offer from House of Blues we had to pass on due to scheduling, and now they are being snotty about getting us back in there, so we may need a different venue up that way.
