I agree with this. If Robert Plant and David Coverdale were both in their early 20's today, and made new music as solo artists, having never heard of them before, listened to side by side, Coverdale has the better singing voice. He was born with better chords.

That being said, give me Zep over Whitesnake any day.

Plant is good...no question. Coverdale borrowed from Plant...no question. Coverdale is a technically better singer...no question.

Just because Plant has been "borrowed from" doesn't make him better than the borrower...just first.

Plant also borrowed from singers before him. I've heard him say as much in interviews. Happens in every genre of music and with every type of musical instrument, including the human voice.

Well, you're talking about style over physical ability. Those are two different things. You can't borrow physical vocal cords. If that were the case, Augeri would have had the vocal quality of Perry, but he doesn't.

You can try to sing by mimicking a style like someone else, but if you don't have that quality physical instrument in your throat to begin with, you can't create the quality of sounds they did.

Wasn't Robert Plant perturbed at Jimmy Page's collaboration with Coverdale back in the 80's? I mean Coverdale's vocal choices, look and stage mannerisms were obviously derived from Robert Plant.

The difference being that Coverdale is/was a far better vocalist than Plant ever was.

No way- Coverdale was good, but Plant was just awesome, and (as alread stated, Coverdale largely copied Percy (Plant's nickname during their heyday).

Personally, I love Coverdale's voice. I've never been a big Led Zeppelin fan.

You gotta hand it to him - he's 56 and he can still belt it out like no other.
