How damaged is Perry's voice really?

That version was so atrocious that Ben E. King's family should consider legal action. That's the fist time you could actually hear that his voice was blown out. He sounded like absolute shit on that song. He was really stretching his voice with those oh so painful "whooooah-ohs." You could literally hear him hurting his voice.

PS I'm 36 and I guarantee you that I could sound just as shitty as I did 10 years ago, but no worse.

Are we listening to the same ROR boot? Granted, sure, I heard him straining on a few in the ROR era too, but I don't recall that one being one of them..........I'll have to listen to SBM again.

I would speculate that Perry's voice is not "damaged" in the sense that we're thinking. I believe the only thing keeping him from singing is desire.

I would speculate that Perry's voice IS, however, 59 years old. He spent several years touring and singing in a range that would make most male singers blow a blood vessel.

I believe that, if Journey would tune down even a half-step (Eb instead of E), he could handle a couple nights a week (provided he spent a few months getting back in shape vocally) for a few months.

He wouldn't sing the songs with the vigor of his 1977-self...but no less vigor than his 1994-self...even in the Beacon Theater boot from '94 he was singing very well, albiet not as "soaring"...

I used to think, "He's lost it...his hip was his way out without embarrassing himself"...I don't think that anymore.
