I had no clue pianos were so expensive, let alone ones signed and used by Cain.

Wow... expensive! That's the 2nd one he's mentioned selling in the past year -- the previous one was a touring grand piano, and I think he wanted only $5,000 for it (1/10th the price). I'm sure it was a totally different grade of piano.

The last one was basically the "guts" of what went in "The Whale." This latest one is absolutely beautiful. I would imagine this is the one he uses for melodies and to inspire song-writing. I wonder if he wrote any songs using the one that's now for sale. It appears as though it's in his house/studio.

You're close, but the one he sold for $5000.00 was only a keyboard in a baby grand shell. A baby grand (I believe) is 6 feet long, but a concert grand is 12 feet long. It definitely sounds much better with the longer strings, but I guess it depends what kind of music you're into. Being 12 feet gives the strings a longer reverberation and "fuller" sound. The real "Whale" is a 12 foot concert grand. I seriously thought about buying Jon's keyboard (Really freaking seriously!) but changed my mind due to funds. I could have bought it, but decided my money would be best spent elsewhere. I just thought it would be cool as hell to have, and it would have got a lot of use live. He uses a Yamaha similar to what I use here at the house. Hope that clears it up! :wink:

I stand corrected! According to the post that the seller had, the "Whale" was a Yamaha C-7, 7' 4" semi-grand. Much shorter than a real concert grand.

They make great treasures! I bought a synth from Geoff Downes (ASIA) that had been used to record and tour with, and he gave me extra cartridges and a list of the songs he recorded with it. It's also visible on one of their live DVDs (Pat Thrall era). I finally got to meet him and mention it just last month, and he asked me how it was holding up. Also bought a bass from John Payne.

Just noticed that the same guy is also selling Neal Schon guitar picks. Now, if he would throw a couple of those in we could have a deal!

Anybody recognise any of the photos in the background of the piano photo? One of them looks like Kenny Loggins or Michael McDonald.

Speaking of EBAY- dig this: My inlaws have a small antique business, and they recently acquired and sold an old pipe box. They sold the box for around $175, and the new owner took it to ebay and sold it for...wait for it....$30,000!!!!! That's not a typo- and they are usually pretty savvy about these things, but that was a hughe miss on their part!
