Yeah because other countries are so grateful lately for our exports...*cough*Myanmar*cough

Shut up, Barak. Still waiting to hear some kind of actual plans for fixing everything... ANYthing... Mr. "Change".
I guess his first plan is to sell your SUVs, stop eating so much and turn your A/C off?? :?:

Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Bite me Barry!

Screw you, Barak! If we set our thermostat on 72 during the summer, the real temperature inside the house would feel more like 78-80, so we usually set it to 69 or 70.

Yep and the magic policy solution will be to tax more so you will behave the way Barry wants you to.

- mandatory inflation linked gas tax increases year after year after year
-higher taxes on home heating oil and electricity,
-perhaps a federal 17 %- 20 % value added tax on restauraunt meals - so you cant afford to drive there and eat there.

I agree with you on this point and for us to sit back and be "green" while the rest of the Russia, India and China become super powers and
pollute the seas and air is ridiculous!
We need to do the right thing of course, but this party wants to tax us more and their idea of "wealthy" goes all the way down to
those that make $75K a year-excuse me that is not rich!

The "change" that this POS keeps talking about is about changing Americans into sheep like most the other countries of the world. I don't need anyone to tell me what to do, I am free to choose (So far) and that is something Barak doesn't seem to like about Americans. Go live in Iraq asshole you will fit right in...

Seriously? That offended and threatened?

He also said parents should stop blaming their kids teachers for the poor performance of their kids at school. It starts with the home, and sound parenting....I like that one, and I'm not a teacher.

His statements may seem frightening, a 180 to current practice, but realize, it's not going to happen over night, and he is not expecting it to. Even though it's 110 in Phoenix right this minute, I understand where he's coming from. I need to install an efficient thermostat in my house so it turns off the a/c when I'm not at home. Stop driving the SUVs. Commit to buying/leasing a hybrid in the next five years (they will be much better, and less gay by then). Someday, maybe we can all telecommute to work. Imagine providing a business justification for having to need to work 'at work'.

It is going to be REAL interesting to see the debates between Mccain (who I have voted for as a State Senator), and the seemingly Teflon Obama. I just hope we don't see his head explode on youtube.

The only person getting a free ride this election is McCain. Who still has enough residual good will with the press from 2000 to warrant a pass.
Electorally, Hillary can't win. The numbers don't stack up in her favor.

Does that free ride include the story about his supposed affair with that lobbyist (can't recall her name at the moment)?

And the fallout from that NY Times story amounted to what?
In spite of the fact that from that story it was revealed that McCain personally intervened on behalf of a cable company whose CEO he had recieved thousands in donations from. A relationship McCain would initially deny, only to be confirmed by the CEO himself.

Nothing McCain has flubbed (and there's been plenty) has gained nearly as much negative press as Rev. Wright, flag lapel pins, or Mccarythite Hamas insinuations.

It's indicative of only one thing.
This is a Democratic candidate not cut from the same take-it-on-the-chin milksop cloth as Dukakis or Kerry.
If you launch an opening salvo, you will be beat senseless using your own talking points.

All 3 candidates left pretty much suck.

As far as Barry's most recent comments, people come to America for a better life. Those of us here are priveleged to live at the standard we do. But we do pay for it, both financial and with blood. Why should we lower our standard of living, when other industrial nations (ie, China, Russia, etc) will continue to use and pollute without a care. Sure we need to look for alternative fuels, but do it while contiuing our standard of living, not through rationing and taxing.

That is what it will all come down to -- more taxes. Use to much power, get charged a luxury tax. Drive an SUV, Van or full sized pick-up - pay a luxury tax when you buy it, at the pump when you fill up, and on your registration every year. Meanwhile, big business will find all the loopholes in these taxes as they always do, and the average citizen will be footing the bill on all these new taxes. But as Mellancamp sang "the simple man pays the bills that kill, but ain't that America".

Because it's the right thing to do.

Remember when America was all about doing the RIGHT thing? Making the TOUGH choices instead of turning a blind eye and letting the oil companies rape the public so some of our 401 K's will make more dough??? What the HELL has happened to this country?

BTW- I kinda went on a tangent...I know that's not what your post was referencing, necessarily. I'm just tired of the excuses. We are ALL in this together, and to paraphrase Ben Franklin, if we don't hang TOGETHER...well, you know the rest.

BTW- The idea about Hillary going off as a third party candidate is intriguing...has anyone heard this rumor floated in the press? (If so, it would probably only be from FOX, cause, God help us, there the only ones who have given her even close to a fair representation lately...dogs and cats living together indeed!)

Bullshit.
The other networks (MSNBC, CNN) only rightfully soured on her when it became electorally impossible for her to win.
She can only win this now through some surreptious method of luring superdelegates to her side. She can't lock this up.

She's pretty much been effectively out of the race for over a month now and the media keeps hyping her up regardless. It seems like that is beginning to wane. If she does manage to steal the nomination, all hell is going to break loose and the Democratic party will be as bad or worse off than the Republican party already is.

Even still he has a point with SUVs. Don't get me wrong, they're fine when used for what they're designed for (sports utility vehicles). However, when soccer mom who already needs severe driving lessons is using it to drive to the corner store to get cigarettes every day wasting more gas than a pontiac sunfire going round trip from pittsburgh to cleveland... then things start to get out of hand. Also, the whole idea of SUVs seems to be lost on the American general public anymore. Being made of more metal does not make a vehicle safer. You can't drive how you want without showing regard for any other drivers on the road just because you're in a bigger vehicle. I'm all about freedoms, but SUVs are a plague in this country. And, regrettably, there are so many people in this country that are just total effing morons, that unfortunately many of them do need to be told what to do, to prevent them from being a danger to themselves and others. I'm not saying people need to be led around like sheep, but if something's a good idea it should be at least taken into consideration, not just "OH THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO CONTROL ME AND MAKE ME A SHEEP. OHH I HAVE TOO MUCH PRIDE TO LISTEN TO ANYONE EVEN IF IT'S A GOOD IDEA!!!". That is a very dangerous way of thining. I deal with that sort of stuff too often.
