Music That Saved You

Postby TRAGChick » Tue May 20, 2008 10:13 am

(Must admit....saw this idea at another site.)

But, here's mine....

Back in 01, I was in the 5th circle of HELL....LITERALLY. :x

Friends died, boyfriend was psychotic, "friends" turned out to be BS.

Oh, and NO PROSPECTS WHATSOEVER of a job!
On the verge of losing EVERYthing: Apartment, Car.....no money AT ALL.

I went to yet ANOTHER dreadful day of hanging out at the Unemployment Office; scouring the area for anything......left feeling depressed and discouraged....

Turned the car on, and heard THIS: I had it in the CD Player - it was cued up for THIS PART....right when I needed to hear it:

"Hang on, no don't let go, now....
You'll know, with every heartbeat -
We learn, nothing comes easy...
HANG ON! Ask the lonely..."

I sat there, eyes filling up with tears.....by the time it got to the "Steve Choir" a-capella part, I was CRYING MY EYES OUT.

It made me feel so much better.....I felt like there was still Hope, y'know.....? 8)

i think a lot of the melodic stuff from the 70's and 80's definitely had positive lyrics and messages of hope.during the 90's you had the kurt cobain's and eddie vedder's who wrote music basically that was hopeless or verged on suicidal.it was so depressing to turn on the radio in the 90's and hear the whiny squeal of someone in deep pain which most of the newer singers did in the nineties.they played the snakebit, despondent role to the hilt.you had all these kids who emulated that and it became cool to like the frowning, ugly, pained underdog who was beat up or abused.i'm glad that stuff finally went away in the late 90's because hearing a singer sound tortured wasn't my idea of good music.

Yep, look at you now. What doesn't break you, makes you stronger.

First thing I thought of was our generation's breakup song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2BjJbKQkgc until we moved on to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFMwSGXNZq0  j/k

She truly is the best!!!

This song saved me from the depths of despair in high school when
our family fell apart after a sudden tragic death. A sweet boyfriend
stepped into my life and dedicated this song...it really meant a lot.

Great album! I bought this when it first came out twenty-something years ago. My favorite tracks are Untouchable One, Citizen Cain and Ocean Blues (Emotion Blues).
