No, you can't "Amen" the prediction of Arnel having to go on steroids. Your prediction was that he'll be singing to tapes by August. I didn't forget. Let me know when that one comes true.

Yes, thank you. I am on the ball.![]()
But why do you think Arnel's voice will give out one month into his first tour with Journey, while your man Augeri was able to last seven (give or take a few months) years with no major problems? From all accounts Arnel is far more prepared for the rigors of this tour than Augeri was. Why are you so convinced he won't last more than one month?

I think he just wanted another guy in the slot. So if Arnel fails, is the other guy going to get another shot at the majors or something? Arnel's like a freakin' Cinderella story. I hope he kicks everyone's ass personally because the story behind the guy is really cool.

You're right. Not only is he a Cinderella story - he can deliver. And then some. THAT is why he, and this incarnation of Journey, will succeed.

Augeri lasted seven years through smoke and mirrors.
Backing tapes, Deen singing his parts, pro-tools, turned down lead vox...not a very good example.

SA never had the power or range that Arnel has demonstrated to this point.

That was my point when asking stevew2 why he thought Arnel would fail just one month into his first tour. Augeri, as much as I liked the guy with Journey, had no where near the pipes coming in that Arnel does. Or the experience singing in this range.

Seriously though, get comfy, because Arnel's going to be around awhile.
He is singing in full voice, and I hear straining, and scatching .Cant be good for the vocal cords. Augeri used head voice and falsettoes to save his voice, it worked for awhile. Steve A had problems off and on. Arnel did his thing with the Zoo , from what i saw on you tube, he would take a break between songs and talk, He wont have that option with jrny, and jrny wont cut him any slackfightingilliniJRNY wrote:stevew2 wrote:Your on the ball, Ill stick by my prediction, but i can still amen someone that has a brain. Asking Stevew a question about Arnel is like banging your head on the wall over and over again. Youre not going to get a sensible answer. He is pretty much hating everything Arnel does.
Yes he did, I went to 19 concerts with Steve A, i saw him struggle on many,he did a good job, and entertained everyone,if they took breaks like they said they would ,This wouldnt have happened, thats my beef, The band is about $$ and they wont stop for a second if a lead singer has vocal problems. Neal just wants a vocal to play his guitar on period. This topic has been discussed before and will again when Arnel bits the dust. I have nothing against him,and he can sing.I just see a Steve P imatation gone bad by Aug. 31. If not,Ill check them out if they do the " after the tour", tour, when they are done with Heart. I dont see it happening thoughfightingilliniJRNY wrote:The_Noble_Cause wrote:fightingilliniJRNY wrote:But why do you think Arnel's voice will give out one month into his first tour with Journey, while your man Augeri was able to last seven (give or take a few months) years with no major problems?

My seven years was a conservative estimate, taking those things into consideration. Wouldn't you say he did it mostly on his own from 1998-2004? Except for some spots on the 2003 tour. 2005 and 2006 certainly do not count.

Blame it on Pilita Corrales.
Two generations of Filipino vocalists grew up thinking all that 'sustain' is a good thing.
Jeremey wrote:Arnel should do fine during his tenure with Journey. Let's face it folks, Journey has got some of the best production around...Singing these songs for less than an hour and a half 3-4 nights a week is definitely not going to do Arnel in. Whether his voice could maintain the touring schedule Augeri had is one thing, but I don't see the same sort of trashing in this year's schedule (maybe Ann and Robin had a say in that...)....The only thing I would be a little concerned about as a singer is that Arnel supposedly lost his voice completely only a few years ago. If the issue was polyps on the vocal cords, they never go away, they can only be controlled. But it sounds to me like it was more an issue of fatigue and overuse combined with drug abuse and a generally unhealthy lifestyle. If Bob Sugarman has had his turn with him, Arnel's certainly going to be maintaining some pretty healthy habits and should be able to survive the tour just fine.
