i'll say it debuts around 14 or so.but the next week drops from 14 quite a bit.second week sakes usually fall steeply with older bands.

I'll say it sells 30,000 units, and barely enters the top 100, and is off the charts the following week...It will barely sell over 100,000 units in the US this year. The band will end promotion once the tour starts. There will be no SNL, or Lettermen...maybe another morning show but not much else. People here and there will be wondering WTF happened? Thy they didn't promote it, why they didn't perform more songs on tour, why it is the same dozen songs + 2 new ones.

I read posts about Journey selling a 1,000,000 copies, a top 20 album, a huge promotional buzz, etc. People, it's 2008, not 1983.

Well if they sell 30,000 copies in the first week they will be very close to the top 10 in today’s culture. I think they will sell a lot more than this. This record is going to sell extremely well for quite a while, just like The Eagles. For people who make comments that about people buying their music at Wal-Mart be aware that they are the Number One seller of music in the United States. They are also great at marketing and know what they are doing when ordering stock and they have printed a whole bunch of this package. Plus, the price is right as you are getting a lot of bang for your buck. The band does have to do their part in promotion, but I’m confident that they are committed to the record and touring with these bands will help.

Now for the rub, I do not think Revelation will be eligible for the Billboard charts. Billboard has some rules that prohibit certain types of marketing such as one-store products.

For instance Collective Soul, who I am a fan of, released their record exclusively at Target and was not allowed to chart in Billboard. Their record sold 24,000 copies with nowhere near the promotion that Journey is getting and Journey has better name recognition and is offering a far superior product in terms of packaging for less than $2 more than the Collective Soul record.

Unless promotion really picks up, I am going right now with a conservative estimate of #43.

For those that say Journey should be promoting this more, please give me some ideas as to what they should be doing? They are doing a radio show with Rockline. Do you know how many people watch Ellen? And the crowd that watches Ellen is most likely in the age group of those who listened to Journey in there prime in the early 80's. The true fan has been counting down til June 3rd for months now. I'm guessing maybe even a few of you will be losing sleep the few days before. But the casual fan, although probably aware that Journey has a new singer, probably has no idea they are coming out with a new album. So if you are a casual fan watching Ellen, and there you see Journey perform a few songs and perform them EXCELLENTLY like they always do, and even do a new song that you've never heard before and sounds amazing, then I think you will be inclined to make sure you run over to Walmart in only a few days and pick up the new album. So i think most of the promoting will be done this next week, especially after the Ellen show. No use promoting an album months ahead of time to the casual fan who probably wont remember to go buy the album anyways!

Keep in mind - aside from the absence of Don Felder (which has been for a while now), people know what they're getting with the Eagles CD: songs written and performed by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh. No surprises, no change in formula.

Thought I'd dig my old poll up and bump it as we'll be seeing the chart positions very soon.

Saint John...NICE call, dude....

You pegged it within 3,000 units and, depending on where it slots in, the entry spot!

From Kevin Shirley's website:

Journey! Their new album, Revelation, sold over 100,000 copies last week!!!! That's fantastic news - and we'll know where it enters the charts tomorrow - probably in the Top 5. Great! It also entered the U.K. charts at #27 - with NO airplay!

FINAL SALES FOR 1st WEEK: 107,562

I am totally impressed by the first week's sales. If I would've guessed, I probably would have said between 50 and 80 thousand.

107,562 Revelation bundles in one week.
Wow.

Big props to SaintJohn.
He nearly called it spot on, the dumb fuck.
(I kid, I kid...)

Odds are in favor of a good second and third week as well,
if WalMart doesn't overdo its restocking and cause a glut.
