What kind of Journey Fan are you?

Postby marijuana57 » Sun May 25, 2008 3:07 pm

Been thinking lately if I'm gonna post something in here with all these stuff going on... and I tell myself what the hell so here you go. I know that there are a lot of confusion right on how to deal with everybody  Loads of history surrounding this band with the constant changing and the fans dangling elsewere on what to do next should they stay or should they go? So, let me ask you people something have you decided already of what kind of Journey fan you belong ? or if you still are this goes for you..
A. a true fanatic (through and through no matter what)
B. still undecided (to take it or leave it) :(
C. the converted ( sudden change of heart) 8)
D. the casual fan (well a bit of me)
E. the neurotic (they like it but just can't say it)
Did I forgot something more guys..? I think so but oh, never mind they know who they are.. I made this thread not to create a havoc or a chaos I'm seriously interested in what you people say. Let you heart decide on what path you choose just wishing you all the 'rock and roll' that you'll gonna get all for the LOVE OF MUSIC. Peace 8)

Definitely a hardcore fan. Journey isn't my favorite band but they're one of my top five and I'm very passionate about their music.

around '82 or so i think i was in third grade and was listening to casey kasem countdown on the radio and i heard 'open arms' and loved the song for some reason.well my mom had escape the cassette which was played a few times around the house and i said bingo there is the group who sing that song i like.ironically my mom loved 'don't stop believen' and didn't really care for 'open arms'.well i ended up playing that cassette from beginning to end completely to death.then in march of '83 i got frontiers a couple weeks after it was released for my birthday.i liked frontiers alright but escape will always be like my introduction to rock music.

Ditto. Although, the only songs I play every day are from the Perry era. Can't get into the Augeri stuff.

For me, it's all about new music. I really don't care for the endless nostalgia tours, although I know the band has to appease the casual fans who only want to hear the hits. The new stuff has to impress me to continue.

So far, from the samples I've heard, I'm liking what I'm hearing. Revelation sounds like some of their best stuff since Frontiers, although I could do without Arnel slipping Perry's vocal stylings into the new songs. If the band wants to say they are more than their original celebrated singer's signature sound, then they need to stop having their new singer(s) imitate him on new music. They should let Arnel be Arnel.

Sammy Hagar never tried to be David Lee Roth and Arnel shouldn't try to be Steve Perry.

I'm semi-hard core. LOL

I love all their stuff, (not really Generations) or the early stuff before Perry, but will buy just about anything they do.

My sentiments are pretty much aligned with StoryTeller. To me, SP will always be #1. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the rest of the musicians -- especially Neal. It took the whole group to make the music special -- which I listen to every single day, also.

I'm glad they have made new music, so that all fans of Journey can discuss and enjoy. I have listened to the clips, even the commercials promoting their tour. Arnel has the voice that they are looking for. I just don't think the songs are anywhere near as special, without SP's involvement (imo).

And, as with some of the SA-sang songs, every time I hear a Perry inflection thrown in there, I can only cringe. As much as Neal/Jon don't want to admit it, the Journey signature sound is Steve Perry. If it is not, then tell their lead singer to quit with the Perry phrasings. It's one thing to "sound" like SP; you don't have to "sing" like him, too!

I'm glad I wasn't born during those Perry era because I might still be affected until now if I happened to be a fanatic. But sadly this band revolves with so much drama than a mexican soap opera. But I do understand now that being fanatic it's not just listening to their songs but more than that and it's them who needs to suffer with any drastic changes they made. But here I am still a casual fan if I go another step forward? Maybe not I'll buy the CD, see one of their concerts and hear one or two things about them.Being a fanatics it takes too much and it's like having a relationship and it needs "commitment" which things that I don't wanna be involved with as of now 8)
