The New Journey Set List...

Postby youkeepmewaiting » Tue May 27, 2008 11:18 pm

So its that annual time for Journey to start touring again.

So what will be the setlist? and What would you want the set list to be?

DSB
Open Arm
Faithfully
Stone In Love

will all be definites.

I can only see 3 new songs (at the most) being played;

AATY
Never Walk Away
and possibly Wildest Dreams

They will probably throw in;

Faith in the Heartland
Be Good To Yourself

I think they plan on playing 4 new songs. I would hope they play the 3 that you listed and alternate Where Did I Lose Your Love and What It Takes To Win.

I would guess something along these lines:

Intro(Part of The Journey(Revelation))
Never Walk Away
Only The Young
Ask The Lonely
Anyway You Want It
Lights
Piano Solo
Open Arms or When You Love A Woman
Guitar Solo
Wheel In The Sky or Remember Me
Faith In The Heartland
Drum Solo
Wildest Dream
Seperate Ways
Faithfully
Don't Stop Believin'

Encore:
Be Good To Yourself
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'

Finale:
After All These Years

I would love for them to try these songs live with Arnel:

Message of Love
Suzanne
Raised on Radio (Haven't heard it live since '86!!!!!!!!!)
To Be Alive Again
I'll Be Alright Without You
Stay Awhile
Why Can't This Night Go On Forever
Can't Tame The Lion

With the 11 rerecorded classics are they going to play those like that live or will they go to the original arrangements?
Granted the differences may be many times barely perceptible but still...

Gotta drop BGTY.
SA couldn't do it, Jeff couldn't do it, and from what I've seen on YouTube, neither can this guy.

Also, anyone notice they haven't played Escape yet with Arnel?

I think Augeri did a passable BGTY the times I caught them. Never heard the JSS-fronted version but I'd like to see Pineda try it.

Throw Once You Love Somebody, Positive Touch and It Could Have Been You his way, too.

And I hope they never do. That song is too long, too boring and way too gay. Seems like 2 (shitty) songs meshed into one.

AP did it at the Vegas dvd show, and at one of the private coporate gigs.
Hit up YouTube and check it out.
JSS did it early on with the band, but they soon nixed it.
SA warbled out BGTY every year, but it was nowhere close to the 2001 dvd which has him owning it.

Bah.
It IS boring.
Sad part is, I didn't think it was in 1998 but since it's been in every single solitary show since as it's Castronovo's pet/favorite song to drum to live, it's become their "Satisfaction."
I'm WAY over that song.

They played Escape in Vegas at Planet Hollywood and he did a great job on that one. Including the high parts at the end. My opinion is that the setlist will be very strait forward for this tour. Probably only a 90-minute set.

Maybe to you, but no one in terms of the masses miss it. It's boring, has gay keyboards, and takes too long to get going. Waaay too long as well. I'd rather hear Deen sing Mother Father, After The Fall, or the 12 Days Of Christmas.

Maybe they will shorten the show a bit. They need Arnel to last. I dont think they will go through that again.. Or would they ?

Yes, I loved Augeri's work but when he struggled (ie high parts) it DID invariably come out as a warble :!:

I'll give ya the other two, but no way ICHBY. IMO, it was Perry's raw gritty vocal delivery that made that song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIvLX615xUU

You must chew your food with your butt cheeks because your taste buds are obviously in your ass! :D

Not only is it an amazing song, It's a concert necessity. Every time they play it, the crowd stands and starts clapping along with the beat. It can be counted on to re-energize a weary audience, every time. Bon Jovi uses Raise your Hands for the same purpose. They strategically place it in the set list to reinvigorate the audience. Journey does likewise when they have a long set list to play. It's a GREAT tune.

The real question should be, how large will the set list be? This tour isn't Journey solo. They have two acts playing ahead of them.

SJ and 13 - Sorry, but for two guys whose favorite Journey album is ROR, I don't expect you to appreciate the quality material.

No way they open with NWA either. They'll open with a signature song, a hit the audience knows very well.

State Of Grace, brand new at the time, was the opener on the '02 tour.

Not at the show I was at! lol... Still, surprising they would open with a new song at all. That's way out of the norm for most bands.

Good point. Have they ever opened a show (post-Perry) with a new song? Anyone know?

I believe I do remember that. Tito...do you remember this. We've gone to a lot of Journey shows over the last 10 years together or as part of a larger group. :) For the record, SOG is a shitty song.

Anything that is longer than 4 minutes and deviates from traditional song structure "sucks ass" according to St. John.

"State of Grace" and "Escape" are two of Journey's greatest songs..

Personally, I would prefer if they don't play anything from ROR. I'm guessing that not much will be played from TBF either. I hope they do play at least a few new songs, but not at the opening or closing of the show. I think a great opening song is Separate Ways. That gets the crowd on their feet from the first moment.
