The SW performance didn't live up to all the hype Schon & Cain have been laying on everybody.

Arnel is better heard than seen, if anything. His stage presence was like a chimp on hot coals....jumping around in a weird way. Off key at times, nearly straining/screaming in order to project. If he continues using his voice like that, he'll be toast before this tour is over.

The stage presence thing just put it over the top for me. Somebody here said he looked like an American Idol contestant. I'd agree with that....and not the winner. Even Augeri had his mashed potato shuffle, which trumps AP's chimp on hot coals routine.

His voice in general isn't bad at all, but I noticed him cutting words short, too. Sorry, he just ain't the second coming. There's more to fronting the band than just being a tenor. Nothing he's doing really draws me in.

And what the hell happened to Neal's guitar volume? I figured he'd be all over that. Dude was playing his ass off and I had my ear against the TV speaker trying to hear him!

So their a cover band because they are a band that covers their own music? Makes no god damn sense, but it makes PERFECT sense since...THEY ARE PLAYING THEIR SONGS!!!!

A cover band is a group of people who play instruments for attempting to sound like one others band... which all comes back to..

Nevermind.

LOL, TNC, remember the old days you used to refer to Augeri as "androgynous" and "doing a fruity shuffle" when he did that shit, Pineda's recalls the Axel Rose "Sweet Child" shuffle a little in my book, all good, but not exaclty perry's urgent, confident, commading stomp around the stage and challenge the audience schtic that he used to hypnotic effect in the Houston dvd.

Yeah I'm biased but hell, the man ain't Perry and I don't expect him to be. I expect him to sing his ass off live and if he misses a few then I know it ain't tapegate and I'm cool with that.

What perry realized, and this I appreciate out of him based on the myriad audio and video boots, never having seen him live, was that above all the "emoting" and "showmanship" and "soul" and intangible shit like that thrown around here all the time was that he FIRST wanted to sound good.

I guess the other crap came naturally because the more I look at the crystal clear flawless Houston DVD I realize that he had it ALL working then.

Augeri worked it totally differently, a more cool swaggeringly bluesy and nonchalant sort of way that played great on the 2001 dvd and when I saw them live 2 other times.

JSS and Pineda, different as they are both stagewise (Pineda seems more stationary jumps out) and vocally both generated HUGE reactions on the Baltimore (my favorite of the JSS era boots though I think JSS said he was slightly off that night I am talking strictly crowd in a big northe east coast corridor city reaction) and Chile dvds (both bootlegs only, sorry folks). Who the hell can tell? Will have to wait until Tuesday to pass final judgement.

I actually watched it and gave it a chance as it has been suggested for months.
I was not impressed.
I did not hear anything where he sounds close to or like sp.
I also did not see any stage presense per sey.
I donlt think the band clearly cares about the longtime or older fans.
It was actually painful at the end of sw and sounded like almost yelling to me.
I also did not see the "range" that has been mentioned in ap voice.
after this and the way the band has acted over the past few years I have lost
all respect for them as individuals.
Not like they care, however they have lost me as a fan.
will not be buying the new cd or going to see them.
will ct to support sa in anything he has or decides to do.
This is not and won;lt ever be Journey to me.

gaining 10 fans means a lot than losing 1. they can accept a few casualties and they won't go bankrupt because of a few individuals. not everybody digs, but the majority does. law of supply and demand.

Yeah, I recorded it and watched it when I got home. I immediately had to watch the boot with Soto doing Separate Ways in Baltimore to push the Ellen show further back in my brain.

He's a good singer who landed the "dream job"...awesome for him...go for it...he was STILL out of key and, as was stated earlier, has NOT lived up to all the "real deal" hype Schon has laid on everyone. Being "jaded" has nothing to do with it. You want to talk "jaded" and skewed? He's out of key and clumsy live and people STILL are falling over themselves about how "awesome" he is...rooting for the underdog only makes sense when the underdog is impressive. Having a huge range & lots of power (which Arnel does indeed have) means nothing if you don't know how to use it.

My impressions are that he's oversinging to compensate for nerves and also I get another impression that maybe he feels people are skeptical of him in the band, and he's trying to overcompensate for that too, sometimes getting the opposite effect of what he's looking for. He's got plenty of power, he needs to dial it back a notch though to keep healthy and also not try to overcompensate.

not impressed.
saw it, gave it a chance like everyone said to do.
don;t care for it.
it remains to be seen how many fans they gain as oposed to how many that they
have lost.
think I will spend my money on people that actually care about their
