Nothing beats those old Lakers vs. Celtics games back in the 80s. I still remember watching that game in Boston Garden when Magic banked in that 3-pointer to win the game. Classic stuff.

Bulls and Pistons were a great rivalry as well (When the Bulls were trying to get over the hump to get to their first NBA Finals).

Great to hear from you another Laker fan!...Agreed, this is what the NBA and the fans long time dream, the Celtics-Lakers rivalry. Bring back the 80's memory Magic vs. Bird. 8)

Hell of a team in Detroit. They are one big player away from being dominant.

Wow. The last time we made it to the finals, I was in high school!
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

celtics were my favorite team back in the 80's.those laker-celtics games were always classic duels and i always enjoyed when they both reached the NBA finals against each other.especially in '84 when bird, mchale, parrish and crew beat the lakers but the lakers ended up taking a couple finals from boston also.

Yeah, it does. Two champions and one ridiculously fluky 55-yard catch off a helmet away from a third, definitely makes us the sports capitol of the world.

Overrated? By who??? Dude, you need to check yourself! The Celtics have been in basketball purgatory for over 20 freakin' years, and have been IRRELEVANT in the NBA! Since their last championship, they've had two players DIE, and lost WAY too many games! The fact that they have the best record in the entire NBA, and all anyone is talking about is the Western Conference tells me that these Celtics aren't remotely overrated! The Celtics have handled every team in the West with ease, throughout the season. They also recently (within the past month) swept Dallas, San Antonio, and ended Houston's 20 something game winning streak by smoking them by over 20 points! As for your wish for your Lakers to take on the Celtics in the finals...Be careful what you wish for!

John from Boston

dont worry, lakers fans are setting themselves up for a fall. all this talk on who will stop kobe, blah, blah , blah.

defensive teams win, the lakers defense cant hold a candle to the celtics defense.

If Kobe has another great game, the Lakers take Game 1. If the Celtics can take him out of his game, they win.

Lakers take Game 1 and 2 at least... I watched part of a European basketball championship game last night and it was hella better to watch than the NBA.

Wake me up for MLB All Star week. :)

thats yet to be seen or proven. the lakers are 0-2 during the season and kobe stunk. dont give me the gasol factor either.

unless they prove tonight, the lakers havent shown any defense against the celtics this year.

The Lakers have played very good defense in the playoffs and they shut down teams when it counts. As for stopping the Celtics I guess we find out tonight.

The only problem with that argument NIG is that the reigning MLB champions play their home games in Fenway Park, so the "championship run" being over has to wait at least another 4 months!

I wouldn't underestimate Pau Gasol. The guy is a great player and is more of a factor than Kobe, as far as I'm concerned. All you need to know about Gasol versus Kobe is that Gasol missed 10 games during his season with the Lakers. Kobe played in all 10 of those games that Gasol missed, and the Lakers went 5-5 and lost to Memphis and Charlotte, at The Staples Center with Kobe leading them! Those are two teams the Lakers shouldn't lose to with Kobe out of the lineup!

That guy is money. What'd he shoot from the floor? Like 58% or something like that?
