A thought...

Postby donnaplease » Mon Jun 02, 2008 10:33 am

I was just reading St. John's signature, which is quoted from Neal's GQ follow-up. Neal hasn't quite been so nasty before in public, to my knowledge. We know that whatever agreement there was between SP and the Journey organization expired, which is what has allowed them to re-create the classics. I wonder if there was some sort of gag order that also expired, which allowed Neal to finally publically say what he truly wanted to say to/about Perry. And if that's the case, I'm wondering what other gems might be forthcoming...

Does anyone have any info or thoughts on this?

You’d think that after a while, everybody would grow up and be able to talk, one on one. But it just hasn’t happened. I’ve been wanting to set that straight for a while. It’s the truth. So fuck him.

At the same time I question Neal's attitude here, yet understand his feelings and motives for doing so.

I was wondering the same thing, as I know there WAS a gag order. Herbert talked about it years ago. Yet Neal says "There is no gag order". Makes me think along your lines, that it must have expired at the same time that the songs got freed up for the re-record. I'd love to hear more about what happened (just out of curiousity), because you KNOW that there's more to this story than what's surfaced!

Hey Donna, I must state that my sig is actually 2 separate quotes from the interview that I combined to sort of run seamlessly. Either way, He said "So fuck him." I wonder if it felt as good for Neal to say that as it did for me to read it. I'm elated that their 1st ammendment rights have been restored. 8)

Coincidentally, Perry and Journey ended on May 8, 1998 - almost exactly 10 years ago. They definitely were prohibited from re-recording the classics until now. I wonder if anything else expired on that date.

I'm beginning to think that Steve suffered more than exhaustion and joint issues. If he had a nervous breakdown
which can happen from a lot of things that build up over time. It could have brought on chronic fatigue syndrome and even
post traumatic stress syndrome, then he really can't go there again.

He has hidden it well if so and done the best he
could with managing his life, after all he's a human. If he couldn't go on then he had to shut down and
maybe he truly cannot perform for health reasons.

Thanks for the clarification. I'd have to go back and re-read the interview (which I'm not interested in doing), but I think I remember the 'fuck him' part at the end when he so bitterly complains about SP sitting at home raking in the royalties of what the band makes while they're out touring. I can actually understand his bitterness about that, if he wasn't such a jerk about the rest of the stuff. Then again, it was SP that worked on the remasters, which I'm sure Neal & Co. benefits from too. So it goes both ways, I guess.

Now, as for your bitterness toward SP... :P

This is like saying a rape victim has no right to insult their assaulter. Neal had shit to be pissed about...Perry didn't.

Maybe there was a reason for that. Until you really KNOW what went on between the 2 sides, you can't accuse Neal of taking the low road. Maybe he did, but maybe he was justifiably pissed off. I'm done trying to analyze it.

These guys were adults. Neal was so upset about his loss ($$$)he threw huge verbal bitter fits over the years. Read back then. I am just saying the verbal assult was never returned.

I just had another thought (2 in one day... no wonder I'm so exhausted!)...

Does anyone else find it ironic that Neal is whining about how he's tried in vain to talk to SP and the big bad meanie won't give him his number, but then again we all know that he didn't have the common courtesy to give SA or JSS a call before or after throwing them under the bus? Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Whining? I didn't hear any whining. None of us knows if Journey are in contact with SA, only that they are not with JSS, which I agree is shiteous of them.

Interesting to see that there's just as many posts discussing my glass of cranberry juice, as there was Journey. :D

Sometimes a fella just likes a glass of cranberry juice, but I think there was something wrong with this batch. Egh. Gonna have to check the label on the carton later to make sure.
