No, Augeri is from NY...I wonder how the NY population compares to the Phillipines? IMO, it's about as relevant.

It will more less then Arrival, for many reasons.

There wasn't YouTube, true. There was two tours, a DVD, and vidio on VH1 and a concert on DTV instead.

You guys are WAY over-estimating the number of people who give a damn about new music by these bands nowadays.

I'm saying yes due to the ton of Filipinos who are buying it for Arnel. Or maybe it just seems like a lot of them...

I'm curious...how did you weigh the Filipinos? How many does it take to make up a ton? Something less then 1000? I would agree with that.

Tours, dvd, vh1 and DTV all place or time specific.

Youtube = free worldwide publicity = more exposure.

No contest.

The REO has sold just over 400,000 copies in the time since it has been released and would have been a top 15 Billboard album if it had been allowed to chart. The rule for exclusive releases was not changed until the week the Eagles record came out. Do not underestimate the power of Wal-Mart. It will sell a million plus.

Does this help this incarnation of the band is the question. We can find the answer to that question if the record gets airplay and builds a buzz. Can they begin to tour as a headliner without the other acts. Actually have a true opening act instead of legacy acts. Only time will tell. They are getting good promotion and media spots.

Geez, I agree with you, but there is such an expression as "in my opinion". Some folks here may be fans of "both bands".

And, it only matters if you are some weirdo crying about Britney Spears, or whatever. I don't believe the 'exposure' on YouTube is going to help them much at all.

Prog, your last post up there.

Dude, that's "men on men" action. Time for a quick "edit" button hit or you won't live it down. :)

How 'bout Journey pwns Reo.

Now for the obligatory "not that there's anything wrong with it".

Too late, Since 78 saved it for posterity.

Its obviously "in my opinion" if I wrote it. Do we really all need to write that all over our posts? I mean, I like REO too.

In my experience on forums, personal subjective opinions expressed (however unintentionally) as "fact" are typically the number one cause of flame wars.

Like I've said before, saying:

"everything Journey did after 1980 sucked ass"

and

"I didn't like anything Journey did after 1980"

essentially say the same thing. Which one is more likely to cause a flame war when someone who likes Journey after 1980 reads it?

Put the situation in reverse. If I said, "REO would kick Journey's sorry ass in concert", watch the flames fly in. :-)

(For the record, I think REO puts on a fun show and knows how to work the crowd, but I don't find the same level of musicianship)

Because I have access to demographic info I can say that current estimates for People of Philippine descent is around 2.2 to 2.3 Million here in the US. In the Philippines, there are 83 Million People making it the 13 most populous country in the world.

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/10.0 ... pines.html
According to that article, roughly 10% of the population works abroad. I know it's a bit dated(2001) but that still seems like a relvant number.
So 10 % is 8.3 Million people.

So does that answer your question Sarah? Hey it was nice to meet you in Vegas, that UCLA sweatshirt I remember vividly for some reason...must of been the psychotic mix of alcohol that St. John kept buying me over and over and over again. :)

Yikes, that's true and it's DEFINATELY gonna dig into their sales worldwide.

It's going to be right around 100,000 for the first week which, because it's a double disc, counts as 200,000 in RIAA sales. The tour should certainly keep it moving strong and radio play is also increasing. The outlook is pretty darn positive.
