My favorite new Journey song is.....

Postby G.I.Jim » Mon Jun 02, 2008 12:29 am

After I've had some time to listen to these songs, I have no doubt that "What I Needed" is my favorite song. There is so much texture and AMAZING chord changes and structures in that song! It reminds me a little of "Mother Father". I definitely don't see this one hitting the radio here, but I can't think of a cooler damn song. Fucking awesome!!!

So, What's your favorite?

I knew "What I Needed" would be my favorite when I listened to the very first clips.

Despite some qualms with it's drippingly carnal lyrical content, "Like a Sunshower" reminds me very much of early Perry/Schon collaborations like "Patiently."
It's stripped down and soulful, devoid of any overblown solo grandstanding, yet still leaving a mark.
This Infinity-era musical terrain was similarly re-explored by Schon in "Coming Home."

I new there were some cool chord changes in there from the clips, but where they go with the song after the guitar solo, is just amazing! I could SO hear Perry tearing this song up! Too bad he never had this song to sing, but I think Arnel did a great job with it! I only wish they would have given him a couple of more weeks in the studio...We would have got much more power/emotion out of these songs.

I'm still extreemly happy with what he did overall! I can't wait 'till Tuesday to hear the re-records and watch the dvd!!! It's going to be a good week.

Haven't listened yet. Way to ignore "Captain Friga's Tea Party."

Right now it's What I Needed. Arnel really brings it on this song, and it's a beautiful song overall. Like a Sunshower is a very close second - I love the tender side of Mr. Nil Shon.

I agree too. I think it's a mix of "Patiently" and "Lights". It hasn't really grown on me yet, but I still haven't listened to it much. It's not that it's a bad song, it's just not my favorite off of the album. I must say, I'm not really a fan of "Wildest Dream". Why they played this on the dvd over some of the other songs baffles me!??? :?

I like what I'm seeing in this poll. Except for Sunshower, its pretty much across the board on favorites.

Guess its more satisfying and less filler.

I was just thinking the same thing when I checked it!   I guess it probably sounds more "old-school" Journey than any of the others which some here obviously like, but it still hasn't grown on me yet.

Hey! Eff you guys! I dig like a sunshower and feel perfectly manly saying so! :P :D

Seriously though, I voted for it, but truth be known, it's waaaaay too early for this poll. Let us get the freakin' package and live with the songs for a bit first! Still, first impression wise, Like a Sunshower grabbed me in strange and wonderful places and hasn't let go.

Those are two of my top choices as well. I'm waiting to hear the CD blasting through my sound system before I cast my ballot...

Where Did I Lose Your Love
What I Needed
Never Walk Away

Very difficult to say without having listened to the CD quality version on a good stereo yet, but at first listen these 3 stand out. Wildest Dream, What It Takes To Win and Change For The Better rock as well, and Turn Down The World Tonight is simply stunning.

Like A Sunshower's definately grabbing me right away, too.
VERY different, at least from anything we've heard from ESC4P3 on.

I love the controled slow-burn that is Schon's playing on What It Takes To Win.

The chugging, climbing riff during the verse is terrific. I really enjoy it when he works his subtle side.

And BY the way, Neal Schon's "Thank You"s in the sleeve both begin and end with shoutouts to the fans and also thanks all past band members.
Dare I say it (since we so liberally toss this label around here referring to everybody BUT Neal), that was classy.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

What I Needed. Reminds of the darker tracks on TBF and Arrival which I really really dug. Little bit of It's Just the Rain, little bit of Loved By You.

Well I voted for "Turn Down The World Tonight" but I could of voted for "After All These Years", I would say picking just one is hard. I have cranked this disc nonstop since I picked it up this morning the last 6 plays have been on the home stereo. Oddly enough the only song I don't like is FITH. :)
