Got my copy of Revelation today. They had it on about 3 shelves plus a semicircular shelf on top. Looks like you could put out 50 copies at a time by the space they had for it. There were about a dozen copies sitting there at 2:30 this afternoon. I took it to the register there in the music department and handed it to the 16 - 18 year old kid behind the counter. He really looked that thing over, as if to say "What the fuck is up with this thing?" By the way the shelves looked and the kid looked, apparently I hadn't been the only one there to get that today.

Have listened to everything twice and will watch the dvd tonight. Really outstanding stuff. I really can't complain about anything I've heard and Arnel is flat out amazing. Neal is in a good place folks - you can hear it in his playing and check out his liner notes - the guy writes a fucking book, thanks the fans, and has obviously taken an accounting of his life. Good for him and good for us. Journey does not die as long as Neal is happy and sucking in oxygen.

I would love to see some creative managing with 'what it takes to win'. Great song to be played as an intro for big games on t.v. Somebody get it into the hands of ABC sports execs for the NBA finals.

The re-records are very cool - nice to hear them in updated audio quality with some of Neal's newer licks. Very cool 'concert' ending for wheel in the sky. As a massive Journey fan, I could not be happier with what I bought today.

Random thoughts watching the DVD for the first time... Jon's hands look really old. Neal makes some hilarious guitar faces and one particulaly funny is right in the beginning of NWA. Arnel is delightful to watch. Seriously.. he has this look of awe on his face everytime the audience bursts into applause and he is a fucking phenomenal singer.

I agree with 7 Wishes...Best since "Frontiers".

Arrival's better, Generations is close, TBF is better too.

Honestly, the new stuff is a lot weaker than I expected. NWA, AATY and a couple other solid tracks. Sunshower's this album's "Butterfly" - every album needs one I guess. Big Disappointment. The instrumental's a waste of time, Turn Down the World Tonight is a little too light, though I like the somber ending note.

I'm very disappointed in the drum sound in the mix - expected more punch. Not Deen's fault.

The redo of FITH is a disgrace and I truly feel badly for SA - he did this so much better and, I'm sorry, IS the better vocalist. Arnel's very good, and perhaps fits the "dirty dozen" better (though that remains to be seen) - maybe he's more "legacy sound." But he's trying to wail like Perry on the new stuff, and the "grit" so many are describing sounds like a thin voice straining to me. Noone has the depth of Perry, but Arnel's got less than Augeri in that regard.

I just get the feeling that this is less a rebirth or new era dawning than it is a last gasp and throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Especially with some recycled material.

As for the GH, whatever. Arnel struggles on the early Perry stuff, does very well with the mid 80's stuff except for SW.

All in all, certainly worth the sticker price but I expected better new stuff. A lot better. Arrival kills this album.

I agree with the bold ! How can anyone listen to Arrival and not hear all era's of Journey? People just hear what they want to. Revelations is good, and certain songs made my spine tingle, but If they would have dropped some of the sap songs off Arrival,it would have been in the same range as Escape and Frontiers.. Arrival was a lot more guitar driven. When I hear the teasers for Arrival I was going crazy. When I heard them for Revelations,I thought a couple were awesome and most were average.. I loved the way Augeri sung the songs he did. I liked how Most of Arrival's songs went in one direction then did a 180. Change for the better seriously made me drop my jaw. Its sounded like a cross between an Infinity and Escape sound. Arrival is hands down better. In fact its one of my favorite Journey albums. Listen to World Gone Wild, that is what Generations and Revelations is sorely lacking.. If Neal was hammered during the making of Arrival, then before they start making the next album,I'm going to buy the man several drinks..

Honest opinion on the first listen is that it's a pretty good disc.NWA and WDILYL are my favorites.AATY is a good ballad and WD I think has potential. I have heard a better version of 1 song though.

Not really interested in the re-records.I have a greatest hits for that or better yet, a group of guys from Va.

Overall-I give it a 7

I'll give props where due--I just watched the DVD and I may have dispensed some man juice on myself after Be Good To Yourself. Neil's hammering of the frets was awesome and Deens ending was sweet!!!!!!!

Have to say that in comparison I am not as much of a Journey fanatic as most on here, but here are some thoughts from someone who really likes Journey, but doesn't consider them my all time favorite band...

First, I am a little biased to Augeri because that's the period that really got me into Journey and the band. I got hooked after hearing "Remember Me."

After reading Andrew's review and hearing some of the teaser clips I was really anticipating picking up this disc, even though a couple months back I wasn't going to waste the money. What I found was that there are probably 3 or 4 really good songs on it, but I was extremely underwhelmed after hearing all the hype. Maybe it is just me, but to me this disc seems very average. Yes, it is a better effort then Generations, but I don't believe it is any stronger than Arrival was, if even equal to it. And, don't get me going on the remake of FITH. Unnecessary and the extra production does nothing for me.

Arnel does sound good, but not spectacular, but I think the band as a whole decided this time around to actually put some effort into the release. I think Cain and Schon's writing is stronger overall than it has been recently, and had it been better during the Augeri era I think they could have produced some better music. But, while Augeri seemed interested in making new music, I think Cain and Schon were beginning to be content with pushing the old material and not spending too much time doing new matieral.

Finally, while decent, I don't see this disc resurrecting Journey, and at this point let's face it, it is about the dirty dozen with a couple new songs mixed in here and there when they are touring. I doubt this will draw in any new fans with the exception of those that Arnel may bring into the fold for various reasons.

WTF is Neal so low in the mix, this cd sounds horrible as far as the guitar is concerned. Its muddy then clear ...this cd is no better then Arrival or Generations as far as production(sounds distorted as soon as you try to turn it up, i tried everything to get the sound to be clearer but the same issues persist .I was worried when i heard the samples that Neal wasnt being used enough, even the solo's are down in the mix.I don't know who's idea it was to do this .........HUGE MISTAKE!!!!Image

Gave it all a good listen a few times, haven't checked out the re-records yet, will tomorrow, lol. Change For the Better, After All These Years, Turn Down the World Tonight, all great. Never Walk Away, Wildest Dream, Where Did I Lose Your Love, What It Takes To Win, all good. Faith In the Heartland, it's good, I can hear why the original is preferred, although I like this one too. The Journey is good, minus the opening IMO. For an instrumental I was hoping more for something that would kick my ass like Van Halen's "Baluchitherium" does, but it's good.

The 2 that won't leave my head are Like A Sunshower & What I Needed, both amazing songs, the music in Sunshower is just stuck in my brain.

Arnel's voice is incredible.

I finally got the bastard (actually 3 :) ) from Walfart today after three fuckin trips. Damn I hate that store! It finally made the shelves around 5 pm here. I'm making my second pass now so I don't have a good overall vibe yet but here are some initial thoughts:

1. NWA - The song just fuckin rocks, Arnel sounds great
2. Sunshower - Pretty gay and not quite my speed. Drew was right, it's out of place. What strikes me the most about this song is I'd swear Augeri was singing on it. In fact, it sounds like an old clip from Steve A. I can't tell the difference. It's quite shocking actually.
3. CFTB - Song friggin rocks, has a good groove and Arnel sounds good too. The keys have too much of a gay 80's sound but I would expect nothing less from the Princess. They need to replace him with a killer overdriven rhythm guitar. Arnel sounds like Augeri on this track too. I really surprised at this.
4. Just now hitting track four (don't know the title), ah Wildest Dreams. Up beat, good groove, sounds good although Arnel could could stand out a bit. My first thought is Jack Blades and Damn Yankees. I don't know who has writing credits on this but I'd bet my ball sack Blades was involved in it.

More to come ....

Ok here goes: First comment as earlier in the thread is, Neal really rocks this all the way through and Deen Great work man!!!! Actually cudos to all the guys!!! And Jeremy for your contributions. As for the songs: To me there isn't a skip track on the entire disc. Sunshower for me is what a lot of people have said, I thought it would be one of my favorites but IMO the weakest track. Best Rocker: Change for the better, Neals Rips on this song Freakin Awesome!!! Arrival Fans should like Wildest Dreams, I could hear SA all over this. FITH as stated before, I prefer the original But I like it and the redone version could have come off of TBF. Best ballad: Turn Down the World Tonight, Love Cain on this one!! The Journey: I could listen to Neal play all night so I already knew I would like it. Award for best song at this point goes to Change for the Better.

On to the Re-Records: First thought was that this is better than Steve Perry !!! J/K J/K  Actually they are what I thought they would be, interesting and fun. I think even a casual fan would figure out that this isn't Steve after a few minutes. Doesn't come close to erasing The Voice.

Over all I really do think this is the most solid and complete Journey album since Frontiers and Arnel was definitely a great choice. Congratulations Journey on a great effort.

This is just an amazing, unbelievable record.

I'm not afraid to admit that "After All These Years" made me cry...Neal's tone is unbelievable. This is by far the best Cain solo-penned song since "Faithfully". So much emotion.

And I'm so proud of our bud Jeremey's part in writing the best Journey song since 1983...

This is how Journey is supposed to sound. It's just a little better than TBF and it blows away ROR.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!
