Top 20 Idea and Other Promo Thoughts

What kind of votes does it take to get an artist onto XM's top 20? Maybe some of you could organize an effort. I don't care enough to research it, but i know it raises the bar a bit.

Is Sammy Hagar's station playing any of it? Maybe Neal and Jon can go to Cabo and be one of those new guest DJ's he has going. I haven't heard his station, so not sure how it would fit.

Why didn't they send a notification out to email addresses on their forum list?

Someone mentioned that Arrival got more PR. If that's true, that's horrible. By their info, they have a growing fan base and they seem more excited about this than Arrival. Seems there are many missed opportunities here. I seem to recall that there were actual TV commercials for Arrival. Is that right?

Most puzzling question for me. Why no in-store signings or mini-shows at Wal-Marts here and there? John Waite mentioned that he sells more CD's at a Borders performance than normal sales. They didn't seem to shy away from the Wal-Mart deal, so exploit it.

Just some thoughts.

I mentioned something to this effect last week.
Why not have some type of contest where
Journey Plays at Your Walmart!
Seriously!

And hey, not to sound cruel because I PERSONALLY
fall into this categroy/demographic:
Why not get a slot for pre-race festivities
at an upcoming NASCAR event??????
Walmart carries TONS of NASCAR merch.
and A LOT of NASCAR fans shop there...

Not too mention getting nationally televised in Hi-Def!!!
Welcome to Terminus... You hungry?

Having dealt as a manufacturer selling to Walmart, I'm familiar enough with how they do business. If you dared short them on even one shipment, they'd cancel your entire line, not just the one product. I can still remember the backflips I'd have to do to make sure that Wal-mart got their quota, and to hell with Safeway, Kroger and the rest of the supermarket chains. Ah the good ol' days.

And the slotting dollars we'd pay to have our product on shelves... manufacturers PAY Walmart for the privilege of them sell their product. It's been too long ,but I think it was around 10,000 - 50,000 dollars per sku. That covers their labor to stock the shelves, make space on the shelves, etc. Not sure if they do that with CDs, but it's probable.

So, Walmart isn't about to pay anyone anything for something to sell. You pay them. And you are grateful. Much bending at the knee, groveling behavior. Walmart wouldn't hand over money to the band to do mini-shows or meet & greet (I'm guessing, no first hand knowledge, but an educated experienced guess). I don't think they even allow IRCs (Instant Redeemable Coupons). They just don't, and it's smart, it saves them a ton of money in the long run.

Would Azoff sport the money to push a few more CDs? Doubt it. If it was somewhere in Times Square or Hollywood Blvd, maybe, but not unless they could guarantee moving 10,000 skus in that time.
