That might be the dumbest Journey-related post I've ever read on this forum.

What's got your goat tonight Dave? It was a totally reasonable thing to say. This record is straining to sound like classic Jourey but it doesn't quite get there. It sounds a bit empty, a bit bogus. You might not hear it that way but this is hardly an outlandish comment to make.

Saying Revelation is up there with the greatest records ever recorded? Now THAT is the kind of moronic talk you should be policing...

It's a great record, yes, but nowhere near the greatest...

Revelation hooked me on first listen, but I didn't feel inspired and riveted the way I did when I first listened to a few other albums... (Journey's debut, Images & Words, Misplaced Childhood, any of the last four PT albums, etc.)

Fuck that dumbass post!!! How could they be tryin' to be Journey when they are Journey?????????????

He said that's how they SOUND...

Anyway...take it easy...you've just bought a record which you think is the equal to the greatest records of all time. Enjoy it...

Yup, I'm really enjoying it, but that dumbass post is a blatant insult to this band.

1. Never Walk Away - Good song, good vibe...along the lines of "Higher Place" or "Be Good To Yourself"...nothing Journey hasn't done before.

2. Like A Sunshower - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz An attempt at "Lights 2"...played well, boring song.

3. Change For The Better - like a Bad English leftover (the way some of the Augeri material was)...not bad, but not great...good chorus.

4. Wildest Dream - more Bad English-style music...not bad, not great...good chorus.

5. Faith In The Heartland - I guess I'm jaded, but Augeri did this song so much better...boring vocal, great song. The intro now sounds exactly like "Where The Streets Have No Name"...

6. After All These Years - Crap...plain and simple. Like a bad Disney movie ballad...or like a Clay Aiken/American Idol throw away. Cain needs to keep this crap on his solo albums...

7. Where Did I Lose Your Love - starts off sounding like 80s Genesis...weird. More "not bad, not great" material. Good chorus...almost sounds like something The Storm would have done.

8. What I Needed - a much better ballad than the first one. More minor-key like "Living To Do"...this should have been the lead-off ballad.

9. What It Takes To Win - not good. Theme from Rocky 7...training montage "you can do it" crap. Give me Survivor's "Burning Heart" any day...

10. Turn Down The World Tonight - best ballad on the CD...great choris...they should have left off AATY...

11. The Journey (Revelation) - Neal's instrumental...sounds like it could have been included on Trial By Fire...reminds me of "Colors Of The Spirit" on the intro. The man can shred, but this was kinda pointless...especially at the end...

Overall:

Good melodies, good guitars, good hooks, but you can't shake the feeling that you've heard it all before and better somewhere else. A couple of crap songs. This sounds like all the good songs on Arrival and Generations simply re-written. Arnel's accent comes through too much for my liking, and his phrasing is a little choppy...but overall does a fine job. Neal sounds awesome, of course. It has it's moments, but this album will not get any repeated listens from me. If this were some new band on Frontiers or something, I don't think some Journey fans would be loving it...they'd say "it sounds like they're trying to be Journey"...that's what this sounds like to me...a band trying to be Journey.

I'm not going to bother with Disc 2.

Hmm, kind of like what I thought after listening to the full cd preview for free on that website posted here. Sounded a lot like Arrival to me. Went back to it again, but songs were gone. Cheap enough, but I'm not going to buy this.

Hey Paleta and Little Ann, if you don't support this band anymore. What the fuck are you still doin' on this board?

I am increasingly alarmed by the melting pot of amen choirs and yes-men we have here.
These posters are here because, like everyone else, they have followed this band in one or more of its many incarnations since 1973.
Why should ONE album invalidate something these people are clearly passionate about, and just who appointed you gatekeeper over who gains entrance into the kingdom?
They clearly cared enough to give the new material a shot, which is more than could be said for the axe-grinding Perry loyalists that used to overrun this place.

Pelata, you had positive things to say about 9 of 11 tracks. You only hated #6 and #9. How's that an album not worth buying? Was the accent the deal breaker for you?

Pelata wrote: Arnel's accent comes through too much for my liking,

But hey, you took the time to write up a review so that's cool. As for my burning, ripping comment. Not directed at anyone in particular. Just been seeing a vibe of folks wanting to hear the cd without buying it when youtubes and samples have been available.

Yep, samples are sub-standard but I can tell whether I'm gonna like something based on those. I only heard AATY, NWA and WD so was willing to give it a shot.

Andrew and TNC, I fully understand what you're sayin' here. I know that all the members of this board are free to talk all they want on how much they hate some members of this band, how this band badly treated the past singers, how much love they have for Perry, Augeri, Soto, Pineda, yada, yada, yada. But to question and blatantly insult their MUSICIANSHIP by sayin' "that this band is tryin' to be like Journey " is fuckin' way below the belt. Fuck that shit, somebody's gotta speak up for the band.

What's got your goat tonight Dave? It was a totally reasonable thing to say. This record is straining to sound like classic Jourey but it doesn't quite get there. It sounds a bit empty, a bit bogus. You might not hear it that way but this is hardly an outlandish comment to make.

What the hell is your problem interpreting English recently? No one here, especially myself, has said this is one of the geatest albums ever made. If that's what you think I'm saying, then that's what you WANT to hear.

The dealbreaker was that it was not blowing me away. "Not bad, not great" is not enough these days for me to drop money on a CD by any band. It's the same reason I will not buy the new DL. They put out a decent album, IMO...but "decent" isn't good enough for Journey.

My definition of a "blatant insult" would be picking a 3rd singer in 10 years trying to carry on a "vintage" sound and trying desperately to trick every one of your fans into thinking that you're still the same band.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion that's what the reviews thread was set up for. Obviously you believed your view important enough to warrant its own thread. My point was that those living in precariously built glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones and it is my opinion that you could do well to learn from musicians of Journey's caliber rather than bagging on them on a public forum. Nuff said.

 Priceless!!!

Anyone who has heard Line Of Fire's music can obviously tell we "learned" from Journey...we LOVE the band!! Where do you think we got our band name from??

I can give my opinion on songs & music all I want, regardless of whether I myself am a musician or not. I've been a loyal, passionate fan of this band for 25 years and I am entitled to like or dislike any new music they release.

I decided to edit this post seeing as how I feel like I was being a bit too flippant with you, bro.

What I meant by that comment is, each time they've obtained a new singer, he has been "the real deal", and "a real pro", and he's credited with "bringing back the magic" and "breathing new life" into the band. After 3 "real deal's" in 10 years, and NOW an attempt to copy thier most successful era under the guise of "going back to thier vintage sound", I can't help but feel like they're insulting my intelligence...I realize that this is all just my perspective, but I can't help it.

Am I not allowed to feel insulted by the band?
