I just don't like the individual sounds of his drums. Seems they lack true pitch definition and melodic sound. Don't know if his Regal tips are too heavy or he's hitting Tupperware, but it just sounds flat & echoey. And that can be a great vibe for certain songs, but like a piano or a guitar, I think drums should sound different for different songs, especially the snare. A snare most often needs a tight crunchy pop that totally separates it from the other drums. With a snare, some decay is good. But with toms, too much sounds like you're trying to create a sound rather than have the drum define it.
But DC himself...yeah, he's a monster. And his playing is only getting better.
The fact that he sings so well too probably makes him one of the most overall talented drummers in the biz.

The above echoes my feeling exactly. Killer drumming on the record but the sound of hit toms...... Forgivable but could be much better.. The drum sound on TBF was awesome and caveman was able to achieve that. Smitty uses Sonar and Deen DW.. I wish Shirley would have went for that TBF sound... Huge... Still it is only minor to me. The music and performances on the cd out weigh the drum sound issues. They are minor anyway.
