Helping is one thing. They didn't even run up to him to see if he was dead or needed a sandwich. They interviewed his son on MSNBC earlier. He said he hadn't seen the video, and never wants to.

I still believe there are good people in this world. Just none appeared in that video.

I heard the "the video we're about to show may be disturbing" disclaimer on the news this morning (which naturally means I rush to the TV to see what it is...) and it turned out to be this video.

Unreal. Just unreal. I can't believe people sometimes.

I would have helped the man and then fucking punched the guy that said he was uncomfortable helping the man beacause he was bleeding.. Then if anyone tried to help the guy up after I fed him his teeth I probably would fuck them up too.. Let him lay there for a while... I have some anger I need to deal with perhaps.. hehe

Oh, I can believe it, because I keep seeing it, but I'll never be able to relate to it. Man, I could get on a soapbox so easily about how our society is heading down the crapper at an ever-accelerating pace, but I'd better not... I could go on for days.

I will say this -- for all the worries about Big Brother and having surveillance cameras all over the place, people that can't govern themselves need to be monitored like cattle. What a sick society we live in...

Something the Police Chief said really struck me -- about how people look at something like this as a "police problem", when it's not a police problem, and that's EXACTLY why we are losing our American way of life... people look to authority figures to solve problems that can be addressed ourselves. No different that the endless stream of trailer park drunks on COPS who have no reasoning capacity and have to call the police to mediate domestic arguments.... good grief! Now, that cancer has been spreading into other segments of our society for quite some time, and it's only getting worse. Good for the politicians, who greatly benefit from an ill-educated and detached society that needs them to watch over and protect them....

Guess I did get on that soapbox, but it felt good....

There are a whole lot of people whose value system is down right shameful out there. Me first/me only seems to be what they live by.

On the other hand..........I can testify that it is not they way everywhere you go. Last December, on a day with a 20 below wind chill, my waterpipe on my vehicle froze up, leaving me stranded on a county highway, I called a towing company, but they were very busy and wouldnt be there for close to an hour.....engine dead, no heat...

7 out of 9 cars that were paasing by stopped and asked if there was anything they could do..Since I had a blanket to keep warm, I thanked them, and told them not to worry.

Now, I do live just outside a small town ( Population 2,000 ) but these people were no doubt on their way to work in the larger city nearby.

So, yes, that whole situation with the hit and run is completely ridiculous, but it's not representative of the entire civilization we are a part of.

You have a very valid point, which is these problems usually occur in heavily urbanized areas. The bigger and busier a city gets, the worse off the people become.

A friend of mine who lives in CT posted about this on another board, and mentioned that they'd actually had 2 horrible hit-and-runs in just a short period of time. I think she said the other one involved a little girl. That board seems to be down right now, so I'll get the details later.

Is that the one where a 14 year old girl was driving and the Mom was in the passenger seat? I heard about that one this morning. It seems that after the little girl was hit, the Mom of the 14 year old girl driving got out of the car and ran away. Now that is some sick shit too. It leaves you to wonder what the Mom was doing to cause her to run like that and leave her kid to deal with the little girl.

What is even sadder was that little girl was going to be adopted really soon. I think the adoptive parents were in the final stages of the adoption. Truly sad situation.

I had heard on a talk show this morning that only 9 states have this "Good Samaritan" law, and CT isn't one of them. I do wonder what that law says.

I saw it without knowing the location and immediately thought New York. Certain parts of any urban city will have this indifference. As if they're embarrassed to be the one to stand out by helping or afraid of being sued for doing anything for the victim.

Aside from calling 911 immediately, they needed a couple people to block cars so the guy wouldn't get run over again. The truck driver clearly saw him could've blocked oncoming traffic but too busy I guess.

Heavily populated urban areas are weird. A lot of people are too scared or detached to even look at each other let alone say hello. Except for the pan-handlers and psychos of course.

Wow I just read this & watched the video, it's awful. I can't say how many times I've stopped for crashes when the cops/firefighters aren't there yet, & haven't thought twice about it. And thankfully people did the same for me back in '97 when I was in a horrible crash after a guy ran a red light, speeding, & hit me & someone else, I don't even remember the crash, was out like a light after it happened, but a bunch of people had stopped to help us, thankfully.

I was able to look back and all my friend mentioned was that they'd had 2 hit-and-runs in CT the past 2 days (from when she originally posted), and that an 11-year old girl had been killed in one.

Were you thinking the Good Samaritan law may be one that gets ya for not acting like one when needed? Actually, the law was designed to protect Good Samaritans from getting sued by the people they are trying to help... the fact we even need them is amazing, but no wonder some people are so hesitant to get involved.

Saw that
Poor man getting a qt of milk

It was freakin Conn, not NY...

Hope he recovers

In my book
the ones that stood by & did nothing are just as much to blame as the ones that ran him down...
