Ultimate Cheesy Ballad Playlists

Journey's ''Don't Stop Believing.''
The most shameful part is that it's on my ''Super Duper Motivation'' playlist for the days I need inspiration to finish a run. —Karen

Clearly, there can only be one choice, by the Undisputed Velveeta Kings of Cheesy/Good:
''Open Arms'' by Journey.

You all know when Steve Perry (pictured) kicks in to the chorus with the ''And now I turrrrrrrrrnnnn to youuuuuuuuuu.......with oooooooooopen arms.....,'' you choke up a little!!! In fact, if you don't, you might actually be lacking a soul. You should really look into that. —Hutchy

Unfortunately, attitudes like this are why Journey will never get into the RNRHOF. It's criminal.

The typicals are in there. Richard Marx, Starship, etc.

I was surprised to see The Scorpions also listed.

Not sure how old that thing is. Happened upon it reading other stuff.

Is SP a candidate for the '09 RnRHOF? I read it in a comment on one of my Youtube videos.

Man, I am so thrilled Steve Perry will be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. No one can ever sing like Steve Perry or hit the falsetto in this song like Steve. This is an amazing DVD too. Thanks for sharing.

Candidates aren't even announced until about November. That person has to be confusing candidacy with eligibility. Based on his first release being in 1984, he is ELIGIBLE as of 2009. That don't mean he's getting IN in 2009. They look at more than just that. As a solo artist with one sucessful record, the fact is, he probably wouldn't. I don't think they can look at his accomplishment with Journey if they're just inducting him solo. And I doubt you would see him get in without Journey, or without Journey being there first. That's like inducting McCartney and inducting the Beatles afterwards. Wouldn't happen.

Thanks, that clears it up.

Jonathan Cain is such a bittersweet curse.... He penned the songs that really took them top, but he's also responsible for the "cheesy" label.

He elevated their writing, but he wasn't the only writer on the songs that took them to the top. The credits on the songs are written in specific orders for a reason. With the exception of Mother Father, S. Perry's name comes first in the credit box before Cain on every Escape song. Ditto on Frontiers (except for Faithfully & Only Solutions).

No doubt Perry reeled Cain back. Just look at what Cain has written without Perry in the mix. Cheese factor times 10. With Perry they made Mozzarella, but without him, they're in Limburger land.

Yes, I know. But I think the cheesiest of cheesy lyrics can be attributed to Cain. As far as Steve Perry's song writing strengh... his songs are pretty cheesy too. "She was only 17, a beauty queen."
