Good question. On the rockline interview, I think Ross said they'll have an hour and a half on the US tour. Curious to see how much of the new stuff makes it into the set list.

Let' see....
Hates Patiently - check
Hates the Depature album - check
Hates Faith in the Heartland - check
And now, added to this growing list of Journey cardinal sins is "jamming"- which is pretty much the Santana offshoot's birthright.
By the time you’re through, the band would bear even less of a resemblance to Journey than it did during ROR (if such a thing is possible).
If not guaranteeing instant career suicide, at the very least, your ideas promise to denature what it is about the band that fans love.

Nobody likes that noise pounding bullshit at the end of their songs. By the time they're done most people don't even want to clap. I've been to over 30 shows in the last 10 years. You?

I do, I think the extended ending to WITS is a phenom. Just my little tiny insignificant opinion though.

Agreed - he needs to return to the Vangelis/Wakeman style grandiosity he displayed on the ROR tour...

The band already over-accomodates to the casual listener by playing the dirty dozen.
If Neal can't break free of the shackles for even a little bit, he might as well pack it up and go home.
"Voodoo Child" wasn't added to the set by fan request, it was to keep Neal sane.Saint John wrote:By the time they're done most people don't even want to clap.
If the fair-weather fans get to hear the hits, they will stay.
Neal re-tweaking and extending the solos every year is about the only thing keeping the shows interesting at this point.Saint John wrote:I've been to over 30 shows in the last 10 years. You?
Because of some arbitrary number that signifies nothing more than your willingness to fritter money away, the band should turn its back on their very claim to existing?
It’s a jam band, you deaf asshole.

Haven't listened to ROR boots.
Does he really?
And if not...
LMFAO.

No - seriously Prog - say what you like about the ROR era not being 'Journey enough' but that keyboard solo was much more grand and majestic than any solo from Cain or Rolie on the previous tours.

lol That "arbitrary number" allows me to speak from experience. The ovation to the ballads and Separate Ways as it is currently being sung elicit a much more robust and enthusiastic round of applause than the momentum killing tirade of noise that round out the other songs. Not to mention that they would be able to squeeze at least 2 more songs in per show...something people would much rather have.

Then do stuff within the song ala WITS. I have no problem with that. Or jam the fucking house down ala La Raza Del Sol (Fuck you, Prog. I like that jam, too) or The Party's Over, but that garbage can sounding drum bashing and guitar squealing shit after the end of the songs is neither audio friendly nor artistic. It's shit...plain and simple.
All those Friga intro's, guitar solo', drum outro's, etc. help the singer keep his voice. Better pray for LOTS of em, not less!
