Art Vandelay wrote:The perfect example that comes to mind for me is Elton John. It's no secret on this board that his early albums are near and dear to my heart. Absolute classics. But as time went on and the rigorous touring took a toll on Elton's voice, his renditions of the earlier songs weren't equal to the original brilliance. Especially songs such as Tiny Dancer and Yellow Brick Road. I've heard him strain to hit those notes, and while it didn't sound the prettiest, nobody cared at the time. He would even flat out say in concert in the early 90's that he just could not perform them anymore.
But then he reworked them to his current vocal range, and has done a magnificent job with it. While they are nowhere near the original versions, you can bet your ass that the entire arena is up and singing and enjoying it as he sings the songs in a fashion that suits his current vocals. And it still sounds amazing.
Whether Mr. P ever decides to release new material, either on disc or via a web page....if the quality is anywhere near the below link, I can't imagine anyone complaining. And remember, this was recorded to suit his vocal range....3-1/2 years after the Medicine tour that so many people here like to piss on.

So why do you care? You guys are actually starting to turn me against AP and I didn't think that was possible.
You don't have to put down another vocalist just to try to build up another one. Let AP stand on his own.

It's a miracle Perry had a voice left at all, after the degree of touring he did with Journey in their heyday. Let somebody else sing those songs as long as he did in that range and show me what is left of their voices.
Wait....there's always lippin'! That works fine for alot of you. I remember some of you actually PREFERRED it! Perry would rather give it all he has than do that. Makes for a less than perfect concert experience, though, if you would rather have a lipped performance, as so many bands are doing these days.
The majority of Perry's FTLOSM tour vocals were flat out kick ass. They were something none of us thought we'd ever see/hear again from him.
Remember the Augeri YouTube's with the giant microphone? Arnel is next, so get ready, all you geeks that think he can out-Perry Perry.
We were damn lucky Perry even did the FTLOSM shows and a hell of alot of people enjoyed them, dumbasses.

I think Arnels voice is stronger than Augeri's,Augeri by all accounts from the word go was struggling live thats why the 2001 dvd was rerecorded. Long before he went to tape all night he was by all accounts having the harddrive help with some songs from the beginning of his tour of duty with Journey!
Arnel seems to have a lot of strength and range and hopefully the band wont burn him out, would they go to tape again if he had problems...you betch ya!

OK, Scardy Girl I don't wanna bring up this fuckin' topic again when I said "end of story". But since you're fuckin' callin' me out here. I felt I'm being compelled to do so. On the record and you can check out all my previous posts. I never thrash Perry's Legacy on this board. But the Delusional Perry Worshippers like you who still can't accept the fuckin' truth - that " The Legend is Done" is what fuckin' irritates a lot of people on this board like me. My point is, why the fuck do you want the Greatest Rock Vocalist of all time (IMO) who's retired and shot to come out of his fuckin' retirement?? What??? To be exposed and fuckin' embarassed. Fuck that!! His Legacy is cemented already and Pineda can't touch him. If ya'll really love Perry, leave the fuckin' guy alone, he's gettin' paid like a Motha Fucka anyway.![]()
