Perry was the greatest rock tenor there ever was. We don't know what he has now. What was Lukather going to say, that the guy sounds like sandpaper dragged over a picnic table? When Steve Sings then we can judge him but regardless it will be hard for him to have any success in the current market. The new generation knows The Eagles and Journey, not so much Glenn Fry, Don Henley or Steve Perry. I wish Steve the best but I think his listening audience would be a select group , not the masses. I will say if he releases anthing in Japan it will be a big payday for him. After living there for five years I can say they do love Steve Perry. Now If he would go the Pat Benatar route and release a jazz/blues album, I would be first in line to grab it, along with about a million Japanese who love their jazz even more than Perry.

If you could put her with Steve and Glenn Shorrock ( Little River Band ) as a trio you could hear some of the greatest smokey voice harmonys ever. Now that would be too awesome, but they are all around the same age so I think it would be feasible. Do a oneoff soundstage show on PBS and see how it goes.

Yup, I agree with you, dude. But still, when Neal metioned that "Legacy Sound" he really meant "High Tenor Voice" which Pineda is and Soto isn't. And the band's initial success now is due to the fact that they got their "Legacy Sound" back.

He sounds really shrill and thin to my ears. That's one of my favorite songs on tape but this performance just sounds thin - maybe Perry's voice really needed that trademark echo to fatten it up back in these days. I dunno. Interesting. Neal's solo is definitely awesome and they're definitely tight. It's nice hearing Neal back when he cut loose and just played straight up guitar without worrying about all the fancy delays and processing. I still don't love Perry's performance on this, even if it had the usual echo and what not on it I'm not sure I'd love it. His original performance on the studio version of the song was raw itself to me.. at least when I think of raw. It just seems really "off the cuff" and full of soul/emotion like the events he's singing about had just transpired an hour before he arrived at the studio. Those kind of magical studio lifetime performances are nearly impossible to replicate live.

Agreed, and freakily enough I thought that very thing while listening to After All These Years yesterday........love that song by the way and Arnel sounds great on it. But I think Jeff's soulful vocals would have been awesome on it! If you haven't heard some of his previous very soulful stuff then ya I can see you thinking it wouldn't suit him with his rocker side.......but far from it.

Ageee with Deb and RVR on this one. I can't hear anything on Revelation which would have been beyond the capabilities of JSS. And although both JSS and Arnel are veteran cover singers...JSS found his own voice long ago whereas Arnel? I'm not so sure....

It'll be interesting to compare the two when I see Journey on Tuesday. Last year JSS put in an extraordinary performance at the Hammersmith show. It'll be hard for Arnel to top it....
