What's your final opinion on re-recorded GH?

Awesome. Journey made the right decision re-recording these hits, and looking forward for more re-recording in the future.

They're just OK, after listening once or twice, I'm not going to listen to them again.

They're bad, Arnel sounds terrible with these re-recordings. Dont ever re-record songs again.

Not interested and will never listen to these re-recorded songs, I'm satisfied with original Perry/Augeri songs.

They're songs, not your grandfather's pocketwatch. Those are Journey songs, and if Journey wants to record them again, they have every damn right to do so. Doesn't matter if they're good, bad, listener friendly, or ear-rape... it's their God given right to do with their material what they want. Hold on while I go tell the Cubs to not even bother with the pennant this year because there's no point in trying to do good things with your career. :P

Rhi...I think there's something you fail to understand. These songs have been etched in our lives as something meaningful. At least for me, anyway (and I'm guessing quite a few others). But...you ARE right. It's THEIR material...they have the right do do with it as they wish. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

BTW...FUCK the Cubs.

And you're right, you don't have to like it. And I ain't failing to understand shit, jigga. They're just as meaningful in my life as they are anyone else's. I'm just saying there's no point in pissing and moaning over something you can't change. It's not a big deal. They laid tracks down to old tunes with the new guy. BFD.

It's kind of like an unfavorable body style change in your favorite car. That's what the rerecorded GH are anyway. I like them, but not as much as the originals. I really like the new stuff though.

A new guy who, IMO, ruined classic songs. I would've felt the same way with Augeri or JSS. It's just not "THEIR'S", if ya get what I'm sayin'.
But the "Pissing and moaning" WILL continue...just so you're warned.

Well, that's fine. Piss away. I just think it's shilly as sit. And that's IMO! He didn't ruin them, did they Nazi around the world and gather up all copies and traces of the Perry versions and incinerate them into oblivion? No. He's Journey's singer. He's gotta sing them at shows anyway. :P

BTW...when the fuck did you become a Cubs fan???

Oh, I'm still a Braves fan at heart... but just between us (and the other asswad of people reading here) you have to choose a side up here. At least that's what I've found. And I'd rather shoot myself in the knee than pull for the Sox (which will happen to you if you go to a Sox game anyway), and I love the atmosphere around Wrigley. There's nothing like it... and uh, same colors as the Braves. Everybody wins!

Not at all! I'm a major one for doing that too......lots of songs out there that are attached to certain times in my life. There are songs out there that can instantly put a bigass smile on my face right from hearing the first chord and others that can put a tear in my eye.

Rhi...Karaoke singers are a dime a dozen. Sure he can sing the ballads...but he fucking SUCKS on the rockers. And I don't fault Arnel in the slightest...I fault Journey and the entire organization. I bet you ANYTHING that Neal didn't find him, but Azoff did. Kinda like BTM when "Jon's wife found Augeri", yet "Neal heard a Tall Stories track and decided to call him". The label they didn't want in the 80's they HAVE become. CORPERATE ROCK.

This band is FULL of bullshit, and I feel bad for Arnel 'cause he's gonna get shitcanned worse than Augeri AND JSS did.

See, now you're just thinking about it too much. I don't give a shit how they found him or who it was, holds no bearing on my life and innate happiness. I don't feel personally wronged by the band or upset over any of their actions because it is none of my business. They're doing what they want... yay.

I'm sure Arnel, as a 40 year old man, who has seen his fair share of hard times is well aware of the possibilities involved, and I'm assuming since he's there then that's a risk he was willing to take. I won't feel sorry for him if he gets "shitcanned". His dream just came true, and no one stays on top forever anyway. This is the best thing that ever could've happened to the little dude, no matter how it ends.

No one is saying you have to eargasm everytime you hear a song. Keep that in mind.

Well, why is it that Chalfant can record a disc full of Journey classics and nobody has a problem with that, but Journey can't rerecord their own stuff? I don't have a problem one with them redoing the classics. They own them and it's their right. It's what was demanded of them by Walmart, and I can listen to the originals any time I want.

Everyone acts like their pissing on Perry by doing this. He still gets paid when even the rerecorded songs get played. At least the ones he's got a writing credit on, and he always will.

I understand completely. I have no trouble comprehending anything, so don't try and "dumb it down" to get me to see what you're saying. I get your point and it's an agree to disagree situation. You're emotionally invested in the past and don't like the re-records. Pretty simple. I don't know if you're thinking you have a sense of entitlement and are owed something because of what some band did within their own lives and career or if you're just flat out disgruntled and want to complain. Ill-chay Iam-lay. :)

I have a problem with it. I hate covers anyway though. Have you all heard that hair metal Journey cover album? YUCK! Its like all those damn movie remakes... enough already. There have been very few music covers I've liked. Its not about Perry (for me) or what they're "doing to him" by covering. THAT mofo re-recorded that one demo and I didn't like that either. Was perfectly fine (and better) the first time.

I remain consistent on this issue. 8)

It will be interesting if Augeri or JSS re-recorded these songs? Do you think a lot of people will be happy? I'm sure people will still whine and bitch.

Mediocre.

If they are doing it just for the fans, then re-record some older and more obscure stuff.

Give me a studio version of La Raza Del Sol with Deen on drums, like they played it on the 2001 DVD.

Things like that.

After I finish listening to Revelation about 3 times in a row, I'll throw in the New Greatest Hits. If anything, for a convenience factor. I'll probably be playing the new Greatest Hits more than the original greatest hits, at least for awhile.

My reaction to the rerecords after a couple of run-throughs is "meh". They're OK, but I'll stick with the old versions.

It doesn't matter what any of us think of the rerecords, though - most people who take the time out of their lives to post on a Journey message board are very likely going to buy a new Journey CD no matter what it contains. The point of the rerecords was to catch the eye of Joe Somebody who walks through the CD section at Wal-Mart and sees "Don't Stop Believin'" in the track listing on the back cover of Revelation. He thinks, "Hey! That's the song from The Sopranos! Only $11.88? I'm down."

To the people who are offended by the re-makes - Would you be as offended if the 2nd disc contained live versions of the songs as opposed to studio versions?
