Negative Ghost Rider, good try. That's with 46% of the sales figures tallied.

I'm surprised that Disturbed's new album has dropped so far this week.

I'm not familiar with them, but it sure plummeted. From 1 to 6, so far.

I'd check them out Rick....One of the few really good "newer" hard rock bands.

I concur! Disturbed is plenty heavy, but with great grooves, awesome melodies and hooky choruses and lotsa great guitar solos. Truly one of the best of the newer hard rock bands. Three consecutive number one's their first week out too. Great band.

The thing is that a lot of those on that list have videos playing on t.v. Well, haven't seen Disturbed yet (don't know anything about them either)...so, would Journey NOT having a video on VH1 JUMP START or MTV make a difference? And, what would the song be if there were to be one?
I'm still not clear on all this...if there is no single new song on the top ten list to match this, then does that mean that the people are buying it for the re-records, the "great deal package" and not for the new songs?

I played Never Walk Away and After all these years for my best friend, who is a casual Journey fan and he headed strait to Wal-Mart to buy it. I didn't bother with the Re-Records. I haven't played those for anyone and everyone so far likes the new music. The point is that there could be some word of mouth sales. BTW Disturbed Rocks!!!

Guys and Gals....seriously... if you are fans of Disturbed but you would like your music a bit more "melodic" I'm tellin' you...please check out the band COLD DRIVEN!! Only been around a few years out of Canada. There first album Set In Stone won a couple Canadian music awards for the single "Bittersweet Casualty" and there newset album Steel Chambers is freakin' unbelievable as well. Check them out...they have a myspace page and a Cold Driven website. CDs are available through Spirit River Distribution. These guys are the best band I've heard in a long time.

Soon W2 will be seeing rainbows all over his avatar. Gold is only a matter of time.
I just got back from Hawaii this evening and while I was there, a hostess said that rainbows are what spirits use to let you know they are thinking about you.

Hey W2...500K coming up and then we can "Castro district" you for a short time.

No...my name's not Phil. Just a 40 year old music fan who was blown away by how good Cold Driven is. The clips don't even do them justice. Honestly, one of the best new bands I've heard in a long time. Just sharing with others here at MR.

Why would the sales figures for Journey change at all minute-by-minute, given that there's only a single U.S. retail outlet selling the album and its sales figures are compiled centrally (and presumably reported centrally as well) at corporate headquarters?

The only other retail outlet for the album is online through the band's website. I'm guessing that those sales are miniscule compared with the total number.

Didn't TBF fall from #3 to #10, in its second week? If so, this CD is stronger.

not quite...unless they get a MAJOR boost. They are at roughly 200,000 right now. Gold is 500,000. What they should do easily is pass Arrival next week. You are looking at gold in about 3-4 weeks--or mid-to-late July if sales hold on. I would expect sales to fall for next week while they tour Europe, then hopefully get a little kick when the US tour starts, which should hopefully hold for a few months while they are on tour, and hope they get radio to come on strong because of the sales or get on tv. What they REALLY need is an appearance on Leno/Letterman. That would make all the difference in the world.

They only have to sell 250,000 units because it's a double CD. Equates to 500,000.

Fair enough, but they probably need to sell 500,000 UNITS before you can make any qualifications on whether the album is a success. Arrival did 250k, and still did nothing. Next week will be the key week, as Father's Day likely boosted sales a little this week. Either that, or first full week in the US tour. Then you get to see whether this thing has legs. Either way, still a nice surprise.

Well it being Father's Day as an excuse for it being in the top 6 again is better than 190,000 impulse buys and 3,000 superfans buying 10 copies, which IS one I've seen today.

At least the "well it was Father's Day" thing's an admittal that people are wanting and deliberately, knowingly, willingly buying it.

don't take impulse buying as a bad thing. Once you get out of the hardcore and/or psychotic part of the fanbase, probably 60-70% of all sales are impulse buys for ANY album. Whether it's a case of buying it because it is "cool", or buying it because you heard that song on the radio...it's the same thing. Music, movies, dvds, candy, ice cream....it's all impulse buying if you generalize it that far. Definitely nothing to be ashamed of, and I'm sure Journey is rightly proud of this.

Anyways, Father's Day could easily see a small spike. Do I see it as more than 5-10k copies--if that? No. That means Journey is doing well. Albums need legs though if they are going to rack up impressive numbers, and it appears word-of-mouth is good for sales to have that little of a dropoff. So far, so good.
