I love that, and the title track is good. One More is solid. If he should has his moment. The Jap bonus is good. But I hit skip like crazy on that disc.

It's one of my personal top 5 favorite Journey songs... which, for the record, are Of a Lifetime, One More, Into Your Arms, Faith in the Heartland, and Winds of March.

I think "One More" is one of the better songs on that album too.

I like Revelation better, it's a more balance album of rockers and ballads. TBF's a snoozefest, too many ballads.

One More flat out rocks. Still She Cries is one of their best ballads, period.

Let's not get carried away by how 'rock' Revelation is. I count about four songs which rock in a mid-paced, unthreatening way. And the production is more lightweight than TBF too....

I confess, I am struggling to connect with Revelation. I find it soulless and unmemorable. I will be trying it on repeat in my car this weekend to try and cement its good points. So far, I actually prefer Generations to Revelation, for all its flaws.

Dang... I literally could have written this myself! That is EXACTLY how I've been feeling about it, and I've been doing the same thing! I'm not finding it very memorable, though I enjoy it when I pop it in -- but I'm having to try to connect with it. And I was listening to Generations yesterday and realizing how much more I like the songs on that CD. Oh, and TBF rules for me.

I'm relieved that it's not just me! Honestly, I have always found something immediate to latch onto on previous releases, but I am still tussling with this one. There are some good melodies on Revelation, I know there are, but I'm unable to recall them five minutes later.

The #$@*!#ing "Never Walk Away"... gets in my head and I find myself singing along and having a party.
Which is totally fine, as its a catchy-ass song, but... it stays in my head!!! The other day I was going mad from it.

I still say Trial By Fire though.

No, definitely not alone, and trust me, I WANT to like it, which is why I keep listening to it. There is just sort of a generic feel to many of the songs, I think, and most of them sound kinda quickly thrown together. "What I Needed" is probably my favorite out of the lot. All in all, I'm worried that in another month or so, this disc will be retired from my stereo, and it pains me to say that...

at this point in time i think before its all said and done revelation will probably equal the sales of trial by fire and it was also pretty close in chart position to in the opening week.revelation has had some pretty good staying power and i don't really remember now if trial by fire hung in the top twenty for a while or if it fell quickly in the album charts back in 96.

I don't even listen to TBF anymore. I could cut that album down to 4 songs and make it an EP and be done with the rest. Revelation, especially when the songs are played live, is a far better album. It helps that it's a legit album and not some studio smoke and mirrors job. In fact, the songs on Revelation sound better live.

Revelation is much better start to finish. I agree with the EP comment above when it comes to TBF. TBF reminded me too much of Steve Perry solo albums - a couple of good songs and then a bunch of unlistenable crap.

Especially when you have a singer willing to sing them live.

...a singer who is twenty years younger and with everything to prove....

Please.

You're telling me that Steve Perry had nothing to prove in 1997? If he didn't, then the man has no personal drive whatsoever. He was gone for a LONG time, you'd think he'd want to go back out there and prove that he still had it. But then again, history is proving that wrong.

As for TBF vs. Rev, I'll take none of the above.

TBF has some of the most god awful songs in the Journey library IMO and, aside from NWA, I don't really even care about Revelation even after listening to it.

You know I've loved Gens and ROR forever.

I've only recently revised my stance on it, and it came on the heels and in light of Revelation, which is a FANTASTIC Journey album. Living with that caused me to re evaluate some perspectives and bump Gens, which I still absolutely adore.

This also makes me wonder if 2-3 years from now if ROR will ascend to the top of my list above Revelation and Gens.

You're comparing apples to watermelons, dude! Regardless of what studio "tricks" or enhancements, Perry may have used in the recording of TBF, he wasn't on a stage, lipping to tapes, and presenting it as a live show to the audience! It's simply NOT the same!

I'm only givin' the edge to TBF 'cause of Smitty's drumming. Most of TBF are snoozers.

Revs isn't perfect. FITH redux?

But which I'd rather listen to today? Revs.

both raised on radio and trial by fire are pretty good albums but to me the spark plugs and adrenaline got taken out like they went on a guitar diet or something especially on trial by fire.don't get me wrong those are good albums but there are no lay it downs or rubicons.

Trial by Fire. I like Revelation very much, but it's missing a few ingredients, top of the list being SP.

oh, wait...I answered this a few months ago...ha, read the dates, girl.
