The Best Songs Journey Never Wrote

Postby Duncan » Sat Jun 21, 2008 8:21 am

Do you ever hear a song and think, that's a great song but I would love to hear Journey/Steve Perry sing that? I thinking about songs that sound like Journey, but aren't Journey.

What got me onto this was Call to the Heart By Giuffria just came on the my I Tunes and I thought with Perry on that tune it could have come off Frontiers.

Any others?

Survivor - Ever Since The World Began.
Arnel has sang this with the Zoo. I think it would have sounded cool sang by a young Steve Perry when he was still singing as an Alto.

When Im with you has one of the greatest vocals of all time. That note Freddy Curci hits at the end is unbelievable. Mind you I agree it would be cool to hear Perry tackle both these tracks.

Tommy Shaw's version was way better than Survivor's, but I agree.

"CTTH" came out when they were riding the Frontiers success and it sounded just like a Journey song. Heavy keyboards, Perryesque voice albeit deeper than Perry's was at the time. It got a lot of attention for that.

I heard SP called up DGE and congratulated him on his Journey tune.

As to the op, would've liked Perry do a couple Arrival tunes and TPIYH. Yeah, I know they're already Journey tunes. :)

As for other people's tunes, I think they could've done a good covers/tribute album such as Rush's "Feedback".

Too late for that now imo.

I didn't know that. Quite please with myself that I heard a Frontiers vibe about that song. I always knew me and Steve perry would be on the same wavelength.

I always thought that 'Believe in Me' off JSSs cd would have made a great Journey song....I'm not sure if Neal wrote it though.....

Also, Timothy Lewis, from DEPARTURE'S 3rd CD, 'Corporate Wheel', is a Perry doppelganger. Songs, 'Giving Me a Reason', and 'Down on My Knees' - would have sounded awesome from Perry-era Journey....

AGREED. Tommy made the song that much better on Ambition.

Bob Welch used to be a member of Fleetwood Mac. Here they are jamming with him on Ebony Eyes. Great song.

I was thinking of these if we are considering songs that already sound Journey like :

It's Only Make Believe - for Gregg Rolie's first solo record
Neal was also the guest guitar player on that one.

"Four In The Mornin'" - off of Night Ranger's 7wishes CD. Always thought it had a "Journeyish" feel to it.

Another Day would be so incredible for vintage Perry's voice. Don't know if Neal could top that particular solo of JP's tho. One of JP's finest compositional moments imo

Yeah, the solo in that song is awesome and the sax fits the song well also.

Okay, I finally heard the Tommy Shaw version but I guess I am used to the original because I'm not feeling this the same way.

Well, looking at a teenage mutant ninja turtle video isn't going to help  Seriously though I am a huge survivor fan but Tommy version is better. Buy his album Ambition, as we say over here - it's the dog's bollocks
