That whole album should've been bigger than it was and it probably would've gone platinum had the grunge/alternative movement not been hitting it big at the time. That being said, this one's not amongst my favorite on the album.

The track that took me most by surprise was #8. Danger in the Dance of Love". It's a rocker but has a funky start/stop groove that gets you jumpin.

Looked for a youtube clip but nothing. These are available on ebay and Amazon starting at 3 bucks.

What do you think of "Russia"? It's my favorite song on the album.

The only thing that bugs me about it is the cover. It looks like they just threw the picture on there at the last minute.

Intriguingly enough, and this is a rumor for another forum, Gramm says that Mick Jones and the late Ahmet Ertegun were sabatuers behind the commercial failure of Lou's Shadow King band.

Keswick theater, Glenside PA 2002 Foreigner on their 25th Anniv tour (and last w/ Gramm) I was outside in the parking lot late night w/ about 80 fans (AR, you were prolly there) and a guy walked up to Lou and Mick w/ a vinly "Shadow King" for Lou to sign.

Next thing I know Mick (who in addition to Lou is the absolute CONSUMATE gentleman in person) is 25 yards away in a different area of the parking lot with about 30 fans flocking after him....clearly a sore spot between a dynamic team!

What do you think of "Russia"? It's my favorite song on the album.

Gramm's vocal's on "Russia" are as good as any of the Foreigner's ballad hits. Some may say better since the backing music is subdued highlighting Gramm that much more. This is one of his best EVER without question. Campbell's guitar work here is simple but very melodic. Great tune

#7 "This Heart Of Stone" is another I like. In the 80's, this would've charted. Has a Foreigner feel. Gramm belt's it out as good as ever.

#8 "Danger..." has a great rock intro which gets even better by switching gears.

Great track. Then again, I can't think of many tracks Gramm I don't like. I've heard clips from early stuff (before Foreigner) that aren't stellar. Sounded like he hadn't developed his singing style yet.

great cd, really a bruce turgon project, but great
vivian talked about this project, it was supposed to be more in the vein of free/bad co, but the label pushed for more bruce turgon songs(remember atlantic didnt fare very well pushing badlands, anothe blues based project)
so it turned into more of a pop record, not as rockin as foreigner,
im sure atlantic wanted a foreigner reunion so they buried it after release,and initial push didnt spark.

There's other good tracks on there, I just noted a few I liked. An old Gramm thread has a few of the others linked.

I've got the collection "A Foreigner in a Strange Land" and you can certainly tell that Gramm wasn't quite there. There are certainly some good moments but the songs are mediocre in the first place and he probably hadn't been singing professionally for very long.

I've also got the first Black Sheep album and it is actually pretty good.

Yea in interviews Vivian Campbell stated that he had high hopes for this CD/group, but that it never got promoted properly, if at all. Lou's singing and Viv's guitar work are both stellar on this CD. I used to own it, but I think my ex took it years ago. Love to have a copy of it now or even the mp3s. Next to Riverdogs...this was one of my favorite albums that Viv played on.

I have Shadow King,Got it when it was 1st released.. Great album..! Lou Gramm's solo efforts were incredible also. Steve Perry.. Lou Gramm... Brad Delp... Best three singers to don the mic! IMO

Definitely. As long as Lou's doing lead vocals. Would love to have heard a studio recording of him doing "These Tears Must Fall"...the live version on his 2003 tour was really good.
