Stevie Ray Vaughan. I melt.
Clapton is a legend, a genius, and a master. But SRV's music gets me to the core.

Re-melts... you push my buttons Moonshine. :D

You know Clapton and JM both bought a Ferrari just to race on the desert highways?? How amazingly wicked are their lives?

This is a great interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yNwIKhneEA

In this interview, SRV talks about the differences between american blues artists and english interpretation of american blues. Granted, this is getting more guitar-technical, than this thread calls for...but within the thread, SRV actually plays a freddie king blues riff and then shows how clapton would do it.

In my opinion, I greatly prefer the original freddie king interpretation, and clapton's way of interpretation leaves alot to be desired...The way clapton does it (and it doesn't matter if it's clapton playing it or SRV 'interpretting it') leads to a more choppy, less fluid bues style.

In my opinion, there's NO ONE...and I mean NO ONE that takes the 'one' and holds onto it with such a commanding authority than Stevie Ray. What I mean by the 'one' is the time. SRV NEVER loses the beat and always lands on the one (i.e. '1, 2, 3, 4, 2, 2, 3, 4, etc)...I've seen clapton lose his time before. I've NEVER seen SRV do it....even completely and utterly stoned.

Clapton is one of the most talented guitar players with the most boring songs ever made.

SRV for sure...

Not even close. IMO, SRV by miles.

BB King had a nice quote about SRV: "The music just flowed out of Stevie. He didn't think about it, it just flowed out of him." And it didn't flow like a calm stream, it was more like a raging river, IMO.

Clapton is a legend, but he is not in the same league as SRV. Heck, very, very few are.

If you haven't seen SRV playing live, go check out one of his DVD's. He was absolutely mesmerizing. I had the pleasure of seeing him with Jeff Beck way back when, still one of the best concerts I have ever attended to this day.

I agree with Strangegrey and SF-Dano. SRV easily. I love Clapton's playing but it pales in comparison to SRV.

There would be no SRV if it wasn't for Clapton!

Baloney...While I'm sure SRV was a fan of Clapton, all or most of his influences were all the old blues players, guys like B.B King, Freddie King, Robert Johnson, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, etc. These are basically the same people that Clapton emulates. SRV never emulated Clapton and SRV wasn't even the same type of player.

Dude, have you heard Journey re-recorded their hits and sold them in a package deal through Walmart?

I think he could actually do that tune justice as long as his tone doesn't sound as bad as it has the last few years.
