Hall and Oates along with Hall's girlfiend Sara and her sister Jenna Allen. the songs that they wrote owned the charts in the early eighties.

But the best of anything and i include Journey here, would be Benny Anderson/Bjorn Ulvaeus,
in terms of incredible chemistry - amazing songs with longevity and class and classy melodies.

See the thing is - Journey don't need to compete with that cos there were loads of writers and combinations - unlike a lot of the pairs mentioned here. They had many versatile songwriters - and it showed in the versatility of the material down the years....
Surprised nobody put Jagger/Richards up - or did i miss it?

Nothing against Survivor, but they only had one "hit" album plus the song Eye of The Tiger.

Simmons/Stanley before them 7 days a week.

Nice call on the other two though! Even though both bands played it a bit safe after they broke out, they both did write some very good and great songs.

Fleischman-Tickner has not been mentioned yet. How?
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I'm with you on Simmons/ Stanley (WAY the hell over those Survivor dudes- and yes, I know I'm in the minority around here...) but John/ Taupin didn't really write that much in the 80's (and I am pretty sure this is an EIGHTIES list...)

Wow wow wow.

First of all Survivor had far more hits than just EOTT.

Burning Heart #2
The Search Is Over #4
High On You #8
Is This Love #9
I Can't Hold Back #13
American Heartbeat #17
Poor Man's Son #33

And second of all, not every hit song that has ever been recorded is a great song. Hit's don't prove greatness, and lack of hits doesn't mean that a songwriter/s isn't great.

Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan is a lot like Lennon and McCartney.

I knew I was going to get a reaction out of my Lennon/McCartney comparison. :D

Peterik and Sullivan aren't legends like Lennon and McCartney. But in terms of songwriting greatness, yes, Peterik and Sullivan are right there with them. Jim Peterik especially is a songwriting machine.

That's disgusting. How dare you compare those two overrated commies Lennon/McCartney to greatness of Peterik/Sullivan. Peterik and Sullivan are much better.

Yoko Ono was 20 years too late. I hate her for that. Though she did come through late in the game.

I'm sticking up for my guy, Journey/Survivor here. Lennon and McCartney are so f'n overrated it isn't funny. Their songs (early) are good. Nothing more, nothing less. Their late shit, they should jailed for.

What a bullshit list.

Where's Mutt Lange/Def Leppard, Mutt Lange/ACDC, Mutt Lange, with, well whoever? King Midas

Where's Desmond Child/Jon BJ and Ritchie S?

And Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson?

There's a stack of units just there.
