I finally got the chance to listen to the new album late last night. To me the album really takes off starting with the sixth track. It's really hard to decide my favorite track on the album, it's either the sixth or seventh one. The first five songs on the album didn't move me too terribly much. But then again, it was the very first time I listened to any of those songs so perhaps after I listen to it a few more times, a bond will begin to materialize, just not yet however. I think the album should have started with the sixth track and after The Journey (Revelation), then have tracks one through five.

I'm surprized this album was under $12.00 bucks though. What can you get for that price these days anyways? That's only as much as a filling breakfast trip to McDonald's in Japan where I just came from this week. Or only about two and a half gallons of diesel fuel, if your driving one of those shitty diesel powered Mercedes. So for that price, you really can't miss if you like the album or not. I'm satisfied with the album.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

Yeah, you got it. I'm impressed. Usually if I'm on an old car forum, people get it right away, but other places, everyone is like how the heck do you pronounce that? I came up with it back in the old AOHell days, and it stuck. Look, I even made up an avatar to go with it. I just uploaded it.

The new songs are very good. I was pleasantly surprised.

Still, why the fuck re-record UNTOUCHABLE material?

I still like Arrival better, but since I rank it right below Escape as my Journey all time favorite, I think it was too much to ask.

Still, I like Revelation (the new songs, that is) very much.

Welcome, Arnel. Hopefully you'll last in the gig!

i thought that would be fine --especially for the new younger generation journey followers.
the re-records are mere introduction to first time listeners of journey or a simply reminder
of old memories to casual journey fans. if they enjoy listening the re-records then the more
they dig deeper for the old original stuff.

heres a quote from an international fan who watched the Arrow Rock Classic Concert in Holland,
(got it thru http://www.journeymusic.com/tour.html concert reviews)

"I was there with the girls of my two sisters,15 and 19 years old,
and boy now they understand why their uncle is a Journey fan for more than 30 yrs!!They asked one thing, wen will Journey be back!!!!
"

i will not be surprised if the Greatest Hits will be soaring high again on billboard index.

Yep, I love Classic cars - no, I don't have any...they have shows here at various places that are fun to go to. My first car was a '67 Chevy Caprice (it was already 10 yrs old) and, then later I had a jacked up, glass packs on the muffler '71 Monte Carlo...LOL! Just picture a quiet, bookish 20 yr old girl driving one of those!? What was I thinking? - it was a piece of crap, too. lol.

The only "right" way to re-record classic material by the original artist, is to add a little experimenting here and there.

Why would Journey do their same arrangements with a Steve Perry clone is beyond me. EVEN if they gave us good, solid new material as a flipside. :|

Speaking of the old AOHell days, that's when I "became" Mistiejourney and even when I was so ticked at Journey I couldn't stand it, I couldn't let the name go because it was sorta "me" by then! : D

PS - have a 1963 Ford Galaxy in the garage. Hubby is only the 2nd owner - the first was his uncle. He has had it "redone" with classic parts/upholstery and it's in great shape!

I had a '70 Monte Carlo, which looked just like the '71 except for a couple details. Now THAT'S the car I wish I had never gotten rid of. LOVED that thing...

And just to take the old car stuff and drag it back somewhat on topic... the very same day I turned 17 and got my full driver's license, I drove the Nova in the picture above on my first road trip from Long Island to the Meadowlands to see a Journey concert. This would have been October of 1986, which I guess was the Raised on Radio tour, right? My parents were about to crap themselves, I'd never driven out of state on my own and this was like a 2 hour plus trip thru NYC into New Jersey. One small mishap... I hit a cat on the way home. Now that I think about it, I got a cheap concert jersey with the Frontiers logo in the parking lot after the show. I wore that thing all thru senior year till the seams came apart... ahhh, good times...

Wonderful!

Postby Lilla_Forever » Thu Jul 03, 2008 5:45 am

Well, I've had Revelation now about a week and it's on heavy rotation on my MP3 player! I think the original songs are some of the best from the band in a long while. For me, the original songs are the best since TBF, waaay better than the recordings with Augeri. Arnel simply has more vocal power and the songs are better crafted.

Arnel is superb, a great, great singer. One of the things that worried me initially was his annunciation, judging from early live shows, but he does a great job on this album, singing perfect English. While he does sound eerily like Perry, it's unfair in my opinion simply to label him as a Perry-clone. He really shines on the original stuff, making it truly his own.

The new songs are allround terrific, no bad ones among them, not even dull ones. My personal favourites are: Change For The Better, After All These Years and Where Did I Lose Your Love. If I should point out a lack of connection for me, it would be Faith In The Heartland, which is a great song melodically, while it loses me a bit lyrically.

As to the rerecordings, I don't see anything bad in doing them and they certainly do their job in proving that Arnel can handle them vocally, they sound terrific! They do tend to offset the xfactor of Perry compared to Arnel a bit, since Perry's feel on the original songs is just impossible to top. But Arnel certainly does the best possible versions of them. He in my opinion comes closest to rivalling Perry on Be Good To Yourself, while the rendition of Faithfully to me is the weakest.

All in all, a great purchase at amazon.co.uk, only 9 pounds :P I will be listening to Revelation still for a long time to come! Congratulations Journey on making this superb album!

Okay!

Revelation finally came in the mail!

Played it like it should be played - on a Bose iPod dock cranked up to eleven.

It's good.

It's really good, although there were a couple of songs that may need to grow on me (Change for the Better, and Like a Sunshower, for example). Arnel is quite the vocal fit for Journey, I don't think that's been under debate. I could not hear an accent (although that wouldn't bother me) and now I can say this for sure: When he sings I do not hear, nor do I think "Steve Perry".

I did get sort of melancholy over Steve Augeri while listening, though.

And maybe this has been discussed before, but I SWEAR I have heard "Wildest Dream" before, but I can't put my finger on it.

Lots of great Neal work on this CD, it always takes me awhile before I take in the more subtle (to me) keyboards.

So, on the first listen I give it an 8/10. I'm sure subsequent listenings will increase that, as the songs become more familiar.

It's definitely Journey.

Now, do I want to go see them by Sacramento, where they aren't only not sold out, but good seats still available. I need to watch the DVD - I'll make my decision after I see that. I'm not really itching to go. I did check out All Access and they are charging $100 more for these CA dates than the MN date or a couple of others.

If any of you are thinking All Access in the Bay Area - Concord is fantastic! Mountain View is crowded and nowhere near as nice as the picnic deck at Concord.

I think the re-records are absolutely fantastic. I really like OTY and Separate Ways. I like his direct singing approach in Separate Ways. He halts a lot of the notes suddenly and crisply. It's a great variation of the song...though only a slight one. The ballads are awesome as well.
