Which singers don't look at the audience?

Postby JohnH » Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:55 am

Herbert's first interview cracks me up. I never realized Perry didn't look at the crowd till I read that, then started thinking about the Escape show and realized he was right. JSS also doesn't really look at the crowd either. (I just saw him Sat night, but I noticed that a long time ago as this was the 3rd solo show I'd seen him do) This is not a complaint about voices...What other big name singers don't look at the crowd? We have a local band that plays the same club I do...the bass player is hilarious, sings with his eyes closed, looks at the ground/lyrics while singing, and never ever looks at the crowd, even when not singing. Also, don't take this the wrong way as in no way am I slamming Jeff...he's great. Rob Halford was staring at the stage and walking around in circles the whole night at the Long Beach show in 2005. Wierd, I don't remember him doing that in the eighties.

Jeff doesn't look at the audience??? Good lord, he practically JOINS the audience! :D :D :D

We locked eyes a few times last weekend and I was standing stage right, on a slight elevation both nights!

Maybe he was thinking I was the ugliest thing he'd seen in years, but he was definitely looking over our way! :lol:

And Howie is like Neal in that he can lock eyes on the audience and not even look at the guitar!

(PS - Sorry I missed meeting you! :) )

Yeah, 100% backed and I've seen JSS 15 times in concert - Solo/SoulSirkus/Journey & Queen shows. One of the most engaging frontmen EVER and totally feeds off the crowd, sometimes lending them the mike etc...

TOTALLY looks at the audience!!!

It's funny but when you see the videos of Departure era Journey Steve is more in touch with the audience, talking and joking, it seems after they hit the big time with Escape that this changed. he is looking at the audience but it appears he is looking through them. People will think your staring right at them but your not, your looking beyond or through them but they will swear up and down that your locking eyes with them and them alone. Anyone who has taking public speaking courses will know what I am talking about. It's a life saver for introverted people who have to do a presentation or teach a class as i had to do. Now I'm fine about it but so many people would be like " Don't you remember when you were looking at me" and I would be like "maybe, I'm not sure" because you tend to blur everyone out when you do it to concentrate on the task at hand. From what I saw of Jeff he looks at people, it's just he is so freakin tall, and moves around a lot so it would be hard to say he holds contact with anybody. Not to mention looking out with the lights behind him in a long blacklighted biker bar, everything he sees might be a little shaded from his point of view.

Now if I could have taught classes at Pattaya Beach in Thailand I wouldn't hesitate to include raised shirts as part of my teaching curriculum. :lol:

Gunna have to agree with Mistie. Granted I've only seen him twice but still! It was like he could make every person in the audience feel like they were the only one in the room!

Hey! It just dawned on me, I was actually in a biker bar! Me! How cool is that? :D

I never wore that pink jacket for Steve, but i might be wearing for Friga this year. my daughter did it for me, I paint as good as I type, but she feels the same as I do about the band and Friga, so we converse and plan the Friga scheme. Its hard to get her going, I might have to take things in my own hands, {sorry Jon}
