Population Density (by state):

Indiana - 169.5/sq mi.

Illinois - 223.4/sq mi.

Just on the basis of this alone, one should expect higher crime rates in Illinois than in Indiana. Also, the higher the population density, the greater the strain there is on public services, meaning higher taxes are necessary. The population density of the city of Chicago is much worse... 12,470/sq mi.! Chicago must be quite desperate if you think about it. No wonder they have a 10.25% sales tax and a restriction on handguns (which is about to be overturned).

I am very glad that you live near the border. Sometimes you really do get the best of both worlds by living in border regions (I live in the Texas border region, so I can relate).

10.25%!!! That's ridiculous.

You're fkn right it is... the city is outrageous. But hopefully the higher taxes will go to helping repair some of the L lines, some of those tracks are downright shot. Those in the city or in Cook Co usually have an escape plan for buying things cheaper... I live on the line with a bordering county that has much cheaper prices on things. Hell, I've only been here 1/4th of a year and I have that figured out.

I agree, but the people of Chicago have considered their circumstances and voted for what they felt was best. Everything is relative, anyhow...

The median family income where I live (Texas) is $52,355, while the median family income in Illinois is $63,121.

I'm sure they could lower that tax and cut spending and still get by just fine with some fiscal responsibility. Hell, I think even Indiana's 7% sales tax is too high, not to mention that they add another 1% on at local restaurants for Marion county (Indianapolis) and the surrounding counties to help pay for the Colts' new stadium.

Eh, my residency isn't up here (yet) and I could give two shits about the local politics. I'm here to make money and have fun. If I have to drive five miles out of my way for gas and cigarettes, I'm just fine. (Paid $4.31 for a gallon today!! )

I think you are probably right. However, there are probably some deep-rooted problems that make that kind of solution more difficult (or at least to take much longer). I suspect that years of corruption and neglect, plus Rhiannon's firsthand account about the city's infrastructure beg for a more immediate, if less desireable, solution.

Yep. He really is a great and honest man.
You can really get an idea of the kinda man he is from reading all he has done ok Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_paul
And he has gotten cut from so many media shows on tv though.. Like the 20/20 interview that my "signature" links to.

It is funny that almost every countries on the planet actually thinks that George W. Bush destroyed America already and see Obama as a big improvement.

I agree with Ron Paul on a lot of things but I think he is extremely naive when it comes to the war on terror. Other than that, he's great on fiscal matters, limiting the size of government, and private property rights. He's one of the few politicians that I can actually believe when he speaks, even though I don't always agree with him.
