Could be.
No matter how many studio techs' craniums got dented in like a Fresca can, the end result was worth it.
In fact, I think the band should go back to the original plan of Perry recording a new album, while a clone tours in support of it.

I'd be all for that.

I would have been for that in 1986, but since then he's done too much to store the band away at his convenience, wreck lineups, fire their manager, not tour, get paid like he was still singing even though he wasn't, and generally make life tough on guys that just wanted to keep working. "So fuck him."

I can just hear him saying it...laid back, matter of fact and almost laughing. Neal's content right now. Believe me, he doesn't want Perry back and neither does Cain. These guys are loving the hell out of the present. Augeri and Soto were professionals to the bone, but they lacked the sound Neal and Jon were truly searching for. The Search Is Over. 8)

And on and on he goes. Do you think its time to stop beating this old horse to death?

And how do you know all this about Schon anyway? Do you seriously believe Schon, Cain and Azoff wouldn't come running the moment Perry gave the green light for a proper reuinion?

We met at band camp.

Come running to what? A guy who, in the last 22 years, created one album with the band and toured zero times? Without an ironclad guranteed contract with no excuses not to tour, this will never happen. Fort Snots doesn't have the guts to sign a contract like that.

You can come out with this dull corporate chat about contracts all you like but if Perry rang up Cain tomorrow and said: "Ditch the new guy and let's write some songs together like the old days" you just know Cain would crumble...

You're probably right Matty, but Cain seems pretty fickle...........loved Jeff at one point too. Interesting.......... http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qu9iM4wjr3Y

Good clip Deb...and strangely it doesn't seem phoney does it? Was this recorded in Feb/March 2007? Before the UK tour I wonder?

As for Perry...I don't think Cain has ever been fickle on that score. In fact I don't think he has ever got over Perry walking away from their songwriting partnership back in 1987.

The point is that Perry doesn't need to reach those notes today or prove anything to anybody NOW. He already proved he's an impossible act to follow and they've been trying to dig up a replacement for 10+ years....and still fall short. If you think one CD of mediocre material without ANY imput from their latest frontman and another CD of Perry era re-records is up to Journey's creative standards, then great for you. Your standards are obviously lower than some others.

So, be happy you're so easy to please!

That clip of Soto singing Separate Ways was really good. Sounded studio...perhaps his re-recorded GH while with the band???

Gotta call bullshit on this one, SJ. You were just as excited, if not moreso, than this self-professed loon, at the prospect of SP returning to Journey only last year. All that stuff you're mentioning had gone on or was still going on then, and you were able to look past it. So, please, tell me what changed between last fall/winter and now that has sent you over the edge...? :?

Yup. And not once did he step onstage and willfully defraud the audience out of their hard earned cash by playing to a tape. Advantage Perry!

Bullshit? Wrong. We're talking about 2 completely different things here. My excitement over SP returning to the band would still be there...but he'd have to tour However, I would not be in favor of him coming back and recording an album while someone else toured behind it . That's what I was referring to in the post you quoted, and yes, I would have been in favor of that in 1986. He's just done too much in the form of firings, legal wrangling, road blocks, gag orders, touring with others, destroying lineups, "injuries" and so on since 1986. Nothing has changed other than my view of him as a bandmate...or should I say, lack thereof.
