The Journey Board

Postby Andrew » Wed Jul 09, 2008 11:23 am

Just a few thoughts based on comments coming from you folks....

I appreciate ALL views and ALL input. Thanks folks.

My view - well, the board should be what the community of posters want it to be. Those posting will in the end, dictate the feel, vibe and mood of the board.

If I can help along the way, then great, I will certainly do that.

My opposition to these appreciation threads and other similar styled things is purely and simply because the origins of this board come from a place where folks could say how they really felt about this band and other topics, without fear of being closed down because you weren't a cheerleader for the band.

This board allowed many to have a say without having to be positive 100% of the time and without being closed down or banned for having those views.
At times it went too far into the negative, and right now it seems to be largely positive.

Like I said – the mood of the community will dictate the mood of the forum.
But I’d like to keep a balance out there by running a board that folks from all aspects of the J fanbase can have their say.

That means trying to avoid being overtly negative for no reason and perhaps also making sure this isn’t a cheerleader forum, as there is already a forum like that and I would like to think this board and community can continue to keep it’s own identity as it has over the years.

Things are going very well right now, but that doesn't mean if someone is unhappy with some aspect of Journey they can't have their say.

Feel free to comment….

I appreciate the fact that everyone from Evil Conservative Industries types to the other end of the spectrum can comment on the band, ask questions (even "stupid" ones), answer questions (even with the wrong answer), and say anything they want.

I have been a member for a couple of years or so, but been reading the board for quite a while longer. Through that time, I have read all types of things, many funny, offensive, disgusting, revealing, informative and too many other things to remember.

The one thing that continues to amaze me however, is that regardless of our backgrounds, political philosophies, careers, income levels, nationalities, or anything else, an interest in a group of musicians who have called themselve's "Journey" brings us together.

We don't always agree, but when it really gets down to brass tacks, there are great people here and this forum often helps make my day.

Hang Tough, old man. You might get arrested just walking in the place.
Or were you just gonna lurk outside with a Sour Patch Kid on a fish hook and wait for a nibble?

Things are indeed going well. I even think they're improving greatly. Its become a considerably different environment than it was when I joined. So much has gone down with the band and there have been a lot of new forum members... As much love/hate as there is around here at times, you can still see that there's a lot of respect here. (ok sometimes yu have to look a little harder, but its there... )

I like that its a place where, even though there is a lot of "debate", no one is really ever shut out or locked down for saying they don't like this or that or they do like something else... I do NOT get that vibe other places *COUGH* *AHEM*.

Thanks, Andrew for having this type of forum...it's not homogenized & all "Journey can do no wrong" type of board. It's quite colorful at times, informative, funny, great interviews presented here...it's the only music forum I visit. It's been a real rollercoaster ride the last few years & it seems to be coasting quietly now.

I think it's safe to type that most lurkers/posters here feel the different
dives into this end or that one when in the Journey threads.
How can we all find a happy medium when it comes to Kool-Aid overkill or
mean made Mai Tai's?.....I have not the first clue folks.

I will say that for the past two and a half years MR is the first and last place I
read daily, gotta be doing something right Wombat, Thank You Sir!.

i personally see nothing wrong with the cheerleading. these guys work their ashes off, have for years, and continue to churn it out for us. what's wrong with a little pat on the back? never know when someone is feeling down and could use a little boost.

to restrict the kudos from us who have been with the band for eons but allow "opinions" from trolling trouble makers is kinda like the news reporting one kid who robs a 7-11 and ignores the 1200+ marching band students at contest all day in the blazing Texas sun.

imho. it's your board and if that's your wish, then that is my desire. you asked for feedback. I hope i didn't hit ya upside the head with mine. cuz i love ya and this place. :D

(p.s. i'm not at all sure if the appreciation threads were not an exercise in sarcasm by the poster. but i still enjoy the props given anyway)
