Sure he did. What do you call what he did?

He was trying to justify his reasons for giving Augeri the axe...while at the same time, pimping out JSS as a viable replacement.

Listen, I'm not making commentary here....it's fact. His reasons for saying what he said can't really be disputed.....

go ahead and try and come up with a more viable reason.... :?:

Augeri was not given the axe, he could not sing that's it. His voice needed the rest, What fact??? Seems like your reading something that is not there.

*No* wrong....

The comment that Neal made was both after JSS was announced as the new singer and after Steve A returned to the band to reclaim his job. So you're comments about him not being able to sing dont fly. You're also assuming that the general public was fully aware of tapegate. Something the band tried desperately to coverup and prevent widespread knowledge of.

In the wake of all of this, Neal needed to justify the reasons for removing Augeri and replacing him with JSS. By refering to augeri as a 'pro tools wiz' he was essentially making the comment that he wasn't a good singer and never was (not true), and that he could cover up his inadequacies with DAW plugins...

if you can't see the statement as a clear and blatent attempt at discrediting him....then you're blind, deaf or both. Again, I'm not making commentary here....it's kinda hard to dispute the intent here, on the part of Schon.

In a youtube interview immediately following the announcement that JSS was the new singer, Neal referred to JSS as the 'real deal' and not some 'pro tools wiz'....

Yes he did, used the 'protools" excuse. The real reason why he {Augeri}couldnt deliver cause the band was so money hungry, they couldnt take 1 fucking break in 8 years.Perry didnt last 8 years in a row, and Arnel wont either. Augeri ran the marathon that no singer ever tried.I respect him more the any other band member. They all lipped on the back ground vocals, and im 80 % sure Friga lipped Every Generation on the Sturgis video on VH1.

Forget specific knowledge here....because I gaurantee you, I have more than you do....and I know for a fact (clearly, you're not as educated in this matter as some are) that Steve A returned to reclaim his job but was shown the door. So, let's dispense the act, ok?

Go back, and revisit the original interview and tell me, like I asked before, what Neal was trying to acomplish with his 'pro tools wiz' jab at augeri.

Oh come on...Look at both the frequency with which Journey toured *PER WEEK* during said times...then recognize the fact that they never took a single summer off....They burned out his voice.

Compare that to the cozy touring schedule of other bands with singers in their 40s....and also recognize the fact that Journey's vocal catalog is the most difficult catalog to sing in music.

Sorry....you're busted on that one too...

Alright, where's 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005?

Actually, where the fuck is your brain and your logic? You're trying to back up your statements with 15% of the picture...btw, that 1999 tour averaged 5 nites a week...that would rip apart anyone's voice, year after year, genius.

It looks like another case of Neal saying what he is thinking with out taking the time to think about what he is saying, sort of like the "Fuck him" in the GQ interview. The guy pushed the right button and Neal said something he probably was thinking but wouldn't have said with such fervor if he would have taken a few seconds to think about what he was saying. He needs to be like Perry and have a lawyer handle any communication because tact isn't his strong point. As Herbie has alluded to, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed (especially in the P.R. department).

1st learn how to discuss without using profanity. I know the whole picture. Of course they played 5 out of 7 nights that's part of touring for 4 months out of the year. That's how they make their money and Augeri knew that before he signed on with the band so don't make any excuses Frank like I said you don't know much about touring schedules or the band.

Yeah, but Rush and Van Halen's keyboard players are busy playing other instruments onstage. Same with some of the minor keyboard/drum loop stuff at U2 shows. But when you've got your own keyboard player, is that really necessary?

This sounds like Steve is doing a type of yodel at the end of certain words or phrases. He quickly allows his voice to flutter to head voice for a brief instance for "effect". Granted, he does this alot on TBF, but I'm not 100% sure it's due to fatigue. Country singers do this alot as well, sometimes too much, especially when transitioning from very loud high notes at the end of a phrase, etc.

Any chance of you slicing up Steve Perry's vox on Message Of Love so we can hear it isolated? Thanks.

Its a pretty simple thing to do I guess but I am telling you that it will change your opinion of that album when you hear him "almost naked". Drums and guitar bleed through but you mostly hear Perry. I will see what I can do but as I am at work right now I need to get back to ummm hehe work...... I will see if I have time tonight and upload it somewhere.

Bumping the thread in the hope that an example of these isolated vocal tracks is uploaded and that they not forgotten about again. Please and pretty please.

Neal had cited pro-tool acts and indicated JSS was a superior performer during SoulSirkus, back before Augeri was tossed overboard.
Neal's dissatisfaction with Augeri is not a closely guarded secret.
Wasn't he telling fans that he was relieved when Augeri got exposed?
