Correct, but they get in distress too. There are times when you can't help yourself especially in the middle of nowhere.

Shouldn't he have some sort of Adrenaline pen or something like that with him at all times?. Especially after being an EMT?

David Lee Roth is an EMT? And yeah, he should have an Epi pen with him at all times. Holy cow.

See these in the ER all the time. Very dangerous and yet very responsive to treatment.

Allergic to nuts?

Well - that dispells the rumors of Roth being the reason Michael Anthony was hitting those high notes all those years..

Van Halen frontman suffers near fatal reaction

Two Ontario police officers have been credited with saving the life of Van Halen singer David Lee Roth - after he suffered a severe allergic reaction.

The rocker was pulled over on a stretch of highway in Oakland, Ontario on June 8 for speeding, and when cops approached the vehicle, they realized the star was in anaphylactic shock.

Roth has an allergy to nuts and was suffering a severe reaction after coming into contact with a contaminated substance.

The officers called an ambulance and kept Roth calm until paramedics arrived on the scene, according to CTV.ca.

Constable Chris Thompson admits he didn't realize that he was dealing with a famous rock star when he attended to the crisis.

He says, "At the time I wasn't star struck, I was just trying to help him. The guy stuck out like a sore thumb. He was wearing a little silk scarf and flashy clothing - it's not something you see in Oakland too often."

20 minutes away from me. All the hicks were interviewed on local TV.

I agree with this.

There was a country parody of sorts, can't think of the guy's name, but the song was 'They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore".

If the show is anything like Rock of Love, then I doubt any nuts being used would be the consumable allergic-reaction-inducing kind.

That might make ya puke in your mouth a bit, too. :P

Yeah, extremely frightening...about 2 yrs ago, I had a severe allergic reaction/shock to a vegetable dye at the opthamologist (for a retina test that involved injecting the dye into the bloodstream)...felt like the oxygen was cutting off to my brain, losing consciousness, everyone staring down at me turned into sillouettes, body on fire...luckily the nurse had a Benadryl shot ready in case you happen to be the 1% that has a severe reaction to this dye....ended up in ER for several hours getting pumped with cortisteroids, fluids.

Seems to be in good shape, other than the peanut allergy. I took this pic at the Van Halen concert in Columbus, Ohio (May 7, 2008).

Agreed. He was the reason - along with Perry - that I went into music in the first place.

My son has a nut allergy. We didn't know until he was two - he ate some peanut crackers, went into anaphylatic shock. Had the paramedics not arrived within 3 minutes, he would have died - he couldn't breathe, and hadn't for almost a minute, when they arrived.

Coincidentally, my son was named after his uncle, and DLR. That's how much love I have for Diamond Dave.

Somebody is lying here. Doh!

Could it have been an impersonator - a professional impersonator? Did they bother to check his ID? Can't imagine they would lie like that, so they must have believed it was Dave.

Something fishy here.

Yes -- I think he had been one in the past, and then a few years ago he took a job as a paramedic in New York City, before his brief radio stint. I think he just did it for the fun -- here's one article:

I'm the same, only it's shellfish instead. Do have an Epi-pen, lol. I didn't even eat shellfish until my early 20's, & first time I did, tried shrimp, & had a horrible reaction, & being a nurse I knew exactly what was happening. Spent a long time in the ER, went home 3 injections later & on steroids for 5 more days, lol. Thank goodness I didn't even like the shrimp, so I didn't eat anymore, had that bad a reaction just from trying it  lol.

Be very careful - this could be a precursor - even for years.

Then suddenly next time this type of reaction can escalate to full blown anaphylaxis.

Good catch Barb.

Did you notice the tag line

"See Also

,,,,,hhhhmmmmmm.

Maybe originally the story was referring to a different set of nuts.

Exactly. There are different classes of allergies & the reactions can get worse & worse with each exposure, possibly even just one exposure.

This is good that DLR is immune for these health issues. Also, we got a bonus appreciation thread out of it. I probably should rescind it though. I understand the cop didn't get an I.D. during the traffic stop/health emergency, but didn't he have to fill out a police report later which would require him to get a positive I.D. Typical cop, doesn't know WTF they're doing. Just writing tickets - yeah right, that makes us safe. Commie.

Dave is still the Greatest Jew Since Jesus though.
