Its great fun.
But as I said, the current series ended last week.
They say there will be a Christmas special, but then they are taking a break for a year, with maybe a couple of one-off specials before they resume.

It's amazing how Peter Sallis (Norman Clegg, Last of the summer wine) aka voice of Wallace still manages to appear in the show, he's sadly on his last legs but still manages a great performance in the current series.

This show has a simple formula to which us Northern folk can relate to, that's why it works so well. It's like the last true reflection of an innocent way of life us middle aged folk hang onto. While society is gripped by knife and gun violence which is sadly part and parcel of the majority of soaps nowadays, this little bit of Northern escapism takes us back to when you could leave your back door open, knew all your neighbours and had pride in your community, and most importantly had a local pub (Bar) in which you knew everybody and got drunk without causing trouble..... days long gone. (I miss Cheers also!)

The show that tops the lot in my opinion is Father Ted, you just can't beat it. If anyone hasn't seen the Nazi episode go seek it out as it's the funniest thing I've ever watched. Another light hearted series worth a view is Ballykissangel, makes you want to go live in Ireland.

Susie,
Most of these are on PBS which is Public television. The stations are funded by grants, the government and donations. Sesame Street is the big show that started up with PBS. You the viewer have pretty much a vote of what shows they will keep on the air. Since there are no commercials the stations really rely on pledge drives to help them keep up their funding. A lot of older retired people provide most of the public donations. I believe cheaper license agreements on the British shows were a reason they started airing them and also they were something fresh to us yanks who had never scene British programing. Dr. Who (with Tom Baker as the Doctor) was one of the great shows they would air in the 7O's. A great staple of PBS is MasterPiece Theatre, which shows literary works translated to film, All the Jane Austin Novels, Sherlock Holmes (with Jeremey Brett), Bleak House, etc. Eastenders and Prime Suspect ( with Helen Mirran ) also get aired guite a bit.

Its so ture there wonderful shows :D I love Masterpiece Theater as well.Every Sunday nite for the most part.Love Jane Austen & the shows that was done from her wonderful books. The Cranfords was great hope it comes on again. As i know i will watch it again. :D

Now you're talking! I can't stand all these cheesy old British shows...and if I could only watch American television for the rest of my life I'd be happy.

Styxman - there's no need to miss Cheers any longer. Try and join Lovefilm if you can. For virtually nothing each month they'll send you whatever DVDs you want...and I'm currently making my way through the first series of Cheers from 1982 and plan to go right through to the final series in 1993 and then segueway neatly into all of Frasier.

Er...not that I'm obsessive or anything....

Frasier is my all time favourite. I have nine seasons on DVD. Just waiting for them to release the final set.

That would be "Last of the summer wine."
Its been running for years and years. Every episode is almost the same but somehow it manages to be funny.

Keeping Up Appearances is the one with Hyacinth Bucket [pronounced Bouquet!] - she tries to be upper class when she really comes from a family of lower class people.

:D

Yikes, lord help poor Richard Bucket (Bouquet!) if Hyacinth ever caught him cheating!

The Fawlty Towers episode with the Germans is probably the crudest but funniest thing I have ever seen on public TV.
