Turn Down the World Tonight is the best song on Revelation.

On a slight aside does anyone have a Shadowsong to English dictionary that I could borrow?

The only thing I struggle with, is there still a damand for Ballads Journey Style. The modern take is always a little more under stated without the power we always associate with that era...does it relegate their music back into the steadfastness of the 80's. TDTWT has a refreshingly new type of arrangement which is catchy as hell and some might be surprised to hear it's by Journey, this track has a chance. TDTWT would have wiped the charts clean in the early 80's, massive no.1, now it'll get airplay and might just creep into the top 100, shame for such a good track.

AATY is nothing but a good middle of the road track, it'll fade into the background sooner than you think, I'm bored with it already as I am with 75% of the album unfortunately. I don't mean I'm not impressed with their efforts of revelation but it soon becomes just another album.

I agree Styxman. Turn Down The World Tonight and - for me - Change For The Better represent a slight departure for Journey...and it's no coincidence that these two songs already - after a mere six weeks - have a sense of longevity the rest of the albums lacks.

I agree with most on here that "Turn Down the World Tonight" and "Change for the Better" have the most staying power, it's proven true for me as well.

I am definitely in the minority here but I really don't like 'Change For The Betta!' or 'Wildest Dreams' for that matter.

TDTWT has grown on me, too. it is more mature. AATY is so cheesy to me.

That about sums it up for me too and it's these cheesy tracks that give them little credibility with the mature fans of today. We enjoyed in back in the 80's but ffs times moved on

I'm going to get skewered for this, but I agree with you Stu....I find that AATY is the one song where Pineda's diction and meter are way off...and it annoys me. I don't really harp on his diction like some of the other 'anti-arneler's (which I dont really consider myself)...but AATY is the one song where it bother's me. TDTWT is a good solid tune.

KOST played it at lunch also. Looks like they're gonna use it to promote the tour. And they had Lea Solanga (a filipina) in studio this morning to promote her disney concert, not that it has anything to do with Journey, I was just working the filipino angle.

Gunbot,
Here's some clip, if you're interested about Lea Salonga's journey from Philippines to London's West End to New York's Broadway Show. If Neal Schon did the search on AP in easy YTube way, then Miss Saigon Production did it the hard way touring around the world.

Definitely. TDWT has some grit, it's the best song on the whole album, imo. AATY is just another cheesy ballad, which Journey has recorded a million times before with the incomparable SP. Nobody can sing a slow (love) ballad better than SP (again imo).

I'm probably gonna get skewered for THIS, but I think AATY is absolute crap! Just pure sap that sounds like the love ballad in a bad Disney cartoon or one of those shitty American Idol "originals"... Yuk! And as for the "country" remark, I agree! I could TOTALLY hear Carrie Underwood warbling or Keith Urban crooning this syrupy crap on their next albums.

The TDTW tune is pretty cool, though. Catchy title too!

While I disagree on AATY, I agree on TDTWT. I've never heard that said before. "Turn Down The World". Very insightful idea for a lyric.

I want to know who's singing the backing vox. They're way up there and very well done.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

''Modern Country''???? WTF....'After all these years' is a massive AOR ballad if ever there was one.

I can totally picture Vince Gill or some other country crooner belting this out. When I hear it I immediately get the urge to run out and check my tires to see if I got any dog hairs stuck in the treads.

One thing is for cetain. Journey have not written or a done a good ballad since Perry left. All the ballads since have been utterly predictable, cheesy, boring. And the lyrics just want to make you throw up. Arrival started the trend, and it clearly shows only one guy could pull them of without sounding too girly or just unconvincing - that was Steve Perry.

Agreed. I still love AATY a lot and would pick it to be played at my 50th wedding anniversary; but it's becoming a bit cheesey right now. TDTWT is sounding more mature.

However, What I Needed is fast becoming my favorite on this CD.

AATY is like Open Arms and TDTWT is like Faithfully. AATY and Open Arms are vocally stunning but pretty generic and by the numbers musically. Faithfully and TDTWT are more intricate and you discover something new as you listen to them more. AATY and Open Arms are pretty much the same thing over and over; not much you won't hear during the 2nd listen that you didn't hear the first time. I keep hearing cool new parts every time I listen to TDTWT...it simply has more staying power because of its more complex design.

PS I better be invited to that 50th anniversary!!! :) 8)
