Why risk denying yourself the nihilistic spectacle you crave,

Ah...spare a thought for the old guard of the Augeri era though. TNC, Monker, Strangegrey and all the other zealots who spent years fighting the good fight on behalf of the new guy...only to see that promise end in failure and disgrace. But they could at least comfort themselves and excuse it all away by saying, "Journey are clueless and corrupt...", "Azoff is too rich and lazy to care", "the market has moved on..", "they'll be playing at pig fairs next summer..." and so on.

And now that Journey have a Top Ten record and are packing out 20,000 seater arenas across the land....well ,the old guard just doesn't know what to do with itself. It's like watching some poor goldfish flip flop around on the floor after being tipped out of its bowl...

After so many non-starts, there was no reasonable expectation for success with this band.
Revelation’s success doesn’t prove you right, it just proves cosmological anomalies do happen.
Revelation is indeed a fine album, but I'd just as rather dunk my scrotum in a laboratory centrifuge before identifying myself as a current Journey fan.

To be fair to TNC...he has taken the piss out of Perry more than almost anyone else on this forum. For a long time his avatar was that rather unfortunate photograph of Perry with the cat on his lap and he recently compared the Perry's fans to "cockroaches" who "infested" this site.

All of this though makes the stance he's taking so hard to fathom. You'd think he'd feel vindicated that Journey have finally tasted some success without Perry and would be lording it up.

Yep.
He's an equal-opp basher and that Av STILL gets me to fog up when I think about it.

Journey's current success was not achieved on the merits of their new album. Far from it.
The new disc was shrink-wrapped with two discs of classic material that continues to sell.
Likewise, the only limited success the Augeri-era had was from the hits-comprised Vegas dvd that went gold.

The only thing vindicated is Perry’s indelible chokehold on this band.
Success was only achieved through faustian dealmaking, including a singer aping Perry far worse than Augeri, and re-recording hits Perry popularized.
Neal once spoke of fearing becoming a nostalgia act, this time he actively courted it.

Why's that? Some of us immediately saw that Arnel was head and shoulders better than Augeri and Soto and a rather nice fit. Don't blame us for being able to recognize talent.

The_Noble_Cause wrote:After so many non-starts, there was no reasonable expectation for success with this band.

Make that one "non-start." Augeri...that's it. Soto was a temporary replacement regardless of what the "official "press release said. That was just done to put an end to the internet cackling of a few disturbed individuals. I find it highly ironic that Soto's so called fans may have been the very reason that he had his heart broken. Doesn't excuse the band or management, but it sure as shit makes me howl with laughter.

As do sold out shows, great reviews and a band that's having fun again I suppose.

Saint John, no matter how often you purse your lips and leave Hello Kitty chapstick rings on Neal’s flacid cock, you will never ingratiate yourself into his inner circle. Give it up, man.

I gotta give credit where credit's due and that was an outstanding cut down, man!!!   That said, I do not now, nor have I ever wanted, to be in Schon's inner circle. I'll say it again...the only dude who's hand I'd like shake is Mr. Pineda's. I've met the rest of the band, and save for one bad incident with Mr. Friga, have found them all to be decent people. Then again, I only say hello and goodbye. Tito's the dude you may want to target here considering he brought at least 30 fucking things to the meet and greet I went to with him.  I brought nothing and said nothing. In fact, I was sitting on a leather couch watching the Yankees and Diamonbacks (Yankees for sure...I think they were playing the D-backs) rather than stand in a long line like some asshole.

It was the Padres. Yankees v. Padres '98. It wasn't 30. It was only a dozen or so. Also, the Cain thing wasn't bad at all. You're overblowing it.

Tito was standing in line to have one of the 30 things he brought with to be signed...and I'm not exaggerating, it was 30 fucking things, man!!!   Anyway, Tito hands Friga his TBF CD and Friga yells something like "Hey Neal, look at him. He has to look the other way (talking about Perry in the picture). Poor me...blah, blah, blah" Neal just kinda smirked and laughed, but I think he was a bit embarrassed. I was a fullblown Loon at the time and had to step away and miss out on watching Tito humiliate himself as he asked for all 30 things to be signed. At one point, Tito asked me to calm down I believe. I was wrecked so he'll probably remember the story better than me. Tito?

All he said in reference to the TBF back cover, "(crying) Look at me, I'm not a part of the band." or something to the effect. He did NOT say, "Hey Neal." He said that to me a few other fans standing around. WE (the others and I) laughed. I don't recall you being that mad. But, then again I was busy getting "30" things signed. So, my attention was diverted. For the record, it was 15 at most, 20 tops.
