Guess I missed that story, care to revisit for us?

Tito was standing in line to have one of the 30 things he brought with to be signed...and I'm not exaggerating, it was 30 fucking things, man!!!   Anyway, Tito hands Friga his TBF CD and Friga yells something like "Hey Neal, look at him. He has to look the other way (talking about Perry in the picture). Poor me...blah, blah, blah" Neal just kinda smirked and laughed, but I think he was a bit embarrassed. I was a fullblown Loon at the time and had to step away and miss out on watching Tito humiliate himself as he asked for all 30 things to be signed. At one point, Tito asked me to calm down I believe. I was wrecked so he'll probably remember the story better than me. Tito?

All he said in reference to the TBF back cover, "(crying) Look at me, I'm not a part of the band." or something to the effect. He did NOT say, "Hey Neal." He said that to me a few other fans standing around. WE (the others and I) laughed. I don't recall you being that mad. But, then again I was busy getting "30" things signed. So, my attention was diverted. For the record, it was 15 at most, 20 tops.

Ok...sounds about right. Had I known then what I know now I might have grabbed a carbonated beverage, shook it up, opened it and ran around laughing at that comment like the Cubs just won the World Series. Makes a LOT more sense now. Though I do think it was a bit inappropriate to do in that particular place. Onstage would've been much funnier.   :P

It's must really hard for the former Journey fans. (TMS) They wanted them to crash and burn. 3 for 3 in sellouts and a sucessful european tour.

This will end-up being one of the most successful tours in 2008. Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick will have multiple sell-out dates on this tour, and Journey's album will almost definitely go platinum by autumn.

And that's before an Asian leg of this tour even starts ......

It's amazing how this has taken shape over the last seven months. Platinum baby! That's what makes me smile, because from the very begining in 86' when I first met Arnel & the rest of the AMO band, I knew that success was in store. It was the type of success that I would have sold everything I had in order to get the money to get them out of the Philippines and show their talants to the rest of the world. You really should have seen the entire AMO Band perform live back then. They were all incredible at what they did on stage. Arnel is proof of that. You watch the YouTube vids and see Arnel singing all these covers to a tee. Back in 86' other members of AMO sung songs to a tee. Nearly every member of the band would sing specific songs which matched their talents, vocal range, and style. It was like watching a night of MTV full of top 40 hits but only one live band was performing them all. Incredible to say the least. Aside from what Arnel did, they also performed songs by Bon Jovi, Billy Idol, Def Leapard, Micheal Jackson, INXS, David Bowie, the list literally goes on and on and on. Lets just say that they were capable of doing a six hour set without doing a song twice.

Today there is this piece of that past in the form of Arnel who at one time was one member of AMO Band. And that one piece of the past has now been applied to Journey and it's become a big success. And the memories I possess are so detailed, I can walk the same streets and stand in the same places and still hear those songs so crystal clear which lead me there that night so long ago it seems in 86'.

And Yes....I'm looking forward to seeing the Asian leg of the tour.

Theoretically, an Asian tour sounds like a nobrainer but I'm not sure. They did Asian tours with Perry but they negelected Europe back then. I think they might have to evaluate whether it's worth the risk to Arnels pipes to add more tour dates after the U.S. concerts are finished.

Arnel is counting on that Asian Tour, it's emotional for him to do this with Journey there. Arnel will put even more of his heart and soul into his performance there because of it. It would be a big mistake for Journey not to perform at least in the Philippines. A concert in the Philippines will be the most important gig for Arnel. His most dearest loved ones are at his side every step of the way, but in the Philippines, he will feel them with him the very most. I say this with great confidence, because I too have been in similar situations. He will feel his greatest fan next to him there like never before. I too had a greatest fan which being back in the Philippines provided me with these feelings of being closer to her like no where else in the world I ever was. You got to trust me on that.

I understand the emotional impact for him to do a show in Manila, but the band will be looking at the financial picture in regards to that. I would think they stand to lose money performing there. let's face it the only people there that could afford a ticket are the celebritys or Fil-Ams living there and maybe a very small percentage of the common folk. Economically it looks to be worse off than when I was there 20 years ago. Playing there would force them to do shows in Japan to offset any monetary losses adding more wear and tear on Pineda. Maybe they'll play there and it would be a great climatic plateau for Arnel, but it won't be for him that the band will be doing it for, it will be purely a business decision.

God, I'm starting to write in Friganese now. As far as a Manila show and what I have posted for my reasoning behind not doing it, I really hope it does happen, all things considered :D

Kamlon, Mackoy, Yuli or yuri? and the others? Saw them then, but they were still "Ijos". And u said it exactly right. My favorite then was Help (John Farnham version) and Through The Fire of Chaka Khan. It blows my mind off thinking how that guy (Arnel) could have done that. Their set also included songs by Scorpion (Always Somewhere, When The Smoke is Going Down, Still Loving You). They also do Duran Duran, Tears For Fears. LOL

EDIT: never mind. What happens, happens. Cheers.

God, I'm starting to write in Friganese now. As far as a Manila show and what I have posted for my reasoning behind not doing it, I really hope it does happen, all things considered :D

I don't even think it's an issue people need to argue about anymore! I would say it's a done deal! I heard Arnel saying, in at least a couple of interviews in the Philippines, that Journey will perform in Manila in November. At the very least, they should honor Arnel's "announcement".

...And I think Arnel would not have made that "announcement", if he's not 100% sure, i.e., based on internal info.

I totally agree with the issues you have raised. However, the outcome of such an event in the Philippines may be a surprise. They would have sell out crowds in Manila, I'm positive of it. Sure not lots of people there have tons of money laying around where they can simply buy up tickets to the show. However, remember that pretty much everything is very cheap over there, where operating cost will be nearly half of what it is anywhere else. The band's meals, lodging and security for example will be alot less then anywhere else. Also renting the concert hall and running it during the show(s) is a lot less then pretty much anywhere else as well. So I would assume that the cost for tickets would be set accordingly, where the prices would be reasonable for the Philippines. And remember, there would be sponsorship from all types of Filipino Celebraties and larger companies and organizations there. I think the music industry there would bend over backwards to sponsor such an event. It only makes sense.

You mentioned Japan. I can say that if they go to Japan for a concert, I WILL be there. I'm already set to return to Japan this October/November 08'. That would be friggin sweet if Journey happened to be doing a concert in Tokyo while I was there.

I think you mean Uly, yes? The only song by the Scorps I recall them doing was "rock you like a hurricane" and yes, Arnel was the member who would sing that one, and tell you what, he did it two and three notes higher in some places of the song compared to the original by the Scorps. The only copy of Arnel singing that one song I have is on a cassette we recorded using a portable walkman next to the mixing board which was located in the center bar area, but that was 22 years ago and the cassette isn't in that great of shape anymore. All I can say about how Arnel sang this song is nothing short of "phenomenal."

If they can schedule at least 5 shows in Japan and Arnel's voice is okay, than I think they could do a show at Araneta or something. It would have to be a decent size venue to justify the trip. I really hope it happens, It would definitely be a Pacman type event. A lot of this is out of their hands, as we don't know when they have to start working on a new album or what Irving Azoff has planned for them.

Oh yeah, that's Uly. It was in a Shakey's joint that I heard them sing Scorp songs i mentioned. And even way back then, i can't think of any song Arnel can't sing.

But they have to officially release their album in PI before the concert for more awareness. It won't get radio play as well if the Journey management will not endorse the album to the radio stations. Proper endorsement is necessary to avoid technicalities/legalities due to it's distribution exclusivity. A good promotion company will also be a must for the success of the concert.
