According to some 100 top songs of the 80's...

Postby MarcelJordan » Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:03 pm

In 1982, the 73rd top song of that year was "Don't Stop Believin' by Journey

In 1985, the 73rd top song of that year was....that's for you to guess. 8) After you figure it out (come on, google you can get it), what do you think of this?

Thanks to Eyeof, I felt like doing a bit of research :D

There are several different charts stating the order. But the Billboard official one can be seen only at the paid site. However, I've found the most accurate to the top 5 (that is stated at the Billboard site for free) that reflects the numbers Ive got.

So, I gonna take the website I have as the precedent!

So, nope its not summer of '69.

Ive visited the site you mention Slander and the top 5 do NOT reflect what's on Billboards official site. Keep searching.

8)

Although, why would I bother to post on the Survivor message board? Hint hint :D

Meanwhile for your viewing pleasure:

Ok point taken.

But just for infor. the no. 73 in 1985 was....drum roll....

"I Can't Hold Back"

ICHB reached only 13 at its peak in the Billboard charts (BUT no. 1 in the rock charts)

So maybe it balances out, because Open Arms was no. 2 in Billboard 100, but a lowly 42 in the rock charts.

Anyway, my two fav. bands have a "tie" of sorts. Maybe this thing only excites me.

ICHB may be the best song in the entire catalog. Hooks galore. Great open. Amazing vocals. I think it's one of the best rock/pop songs ever. I really think the song would have charted higher if the band had been better established. Let's keep in mind it was about 3 years between Tiger and Vital Signs.

Slander wasn't it two years between Tiger and VS? The band was established but Scotti ....I don't even want to talk about it.

Congratulations, I will point out that this is possibly the first time I've seen you offer a completely unqualified praise of JJ.

Marcel you are right..Tiger was 82...and VS did come out in 84. I guess I just feel like it was almost a different band with VS. Your thoughts on why I can't hold back didn't chart higher on the top 40.

Terrible promotion. Also I think people wanted to know if Survivor was pop or rock. It was kind of confusing.

I think part of it was it was 1. The first single off the album.

If you think about it, that song was pivitol. I mean CITG had tanked commercially...If the first single tanks on VS, it's over for the others....

So it had a big job and lived up...

It was a fall release as well, which often times won't do as well as the summer release. "The Search if Over" was masterally released in the spring and became a wedding and high school spring choral concert anthem....but make no mistake, Can't Hold Back opened that door. If High on You would have been the first single, we might have been in trouble and I bet it would not have been top 10....

Yep. That's why Mike Clink jumped ship and thought he'll do better with Axle Rose and co. And HE DID!

Survivor had the chance to compete with them but tried more pop, Mike had enough. (Im just making that up but you'll never know). :P
