Well if he is, he's not doing a good job. I only counted one spelling error in his post. He did forgot to capitalize Arnel, but that's not quite good enough.

Re: MEET AND GREET AT SAN DIEGO CONCERT

Postby edcha » Sun Jul 20, 2008 4:44 pm

This thread is related to the thread I started on June 24, 2008, 5:29 p.m. titled "I Believe Jon Meant Well But..."

In the 9th block of that thread, I wrote:
"....Anything overdone is bad. If after-show activity is done mildly and with adequate precautions {i.e., no kissing and hugging (by cordoning off)—just a few handshakes (which can be washed-off later) and a controlled/organized autographing session}—a mutually-beneficial after-show life could be made possible. I believe both "not doing it" and "overdoing it" are bad extremes. And also, last time I checked with my Asian and Filipino friends...a little "after-show life" is pretty important to them."...

Now with regard to the meet & greet videos above, I was not so sure how to respond to all your comments, so I talked to my Filipino friends again (my other Asian friends were not available). While most of you were openly disgusted about how these fans "invade the privacy" of Arnel---I was told (perhaps some of you can confirm this through other means) that this is a pretty normal practice in the Philippines---and socially accceptable. They said fans do these kind of stuff with popular Filipino singers, actors, actresses, politicians, etc. In other words it's cultural! That is, it may be considered inappropriate in the U.S. and elsewhere, but it's almost like a tradition in the Philippines! (I'm not sure though if this is true in other Asian countries).

Having said that, I still believe that a planned controlled/organized "meet and greet" can be reasonably implemented---and will prevent "too-close-for-comfort" encounters like those shown in the video clips above--which, I agree, could pose health risks.

I just got home, [my daughter drove} great show, it was Journey with out the Friga ,the whole band is straight. They were awesome the whole band was cool. the guitar player inspiered my daughter and her freind {a guitar player that reminds me of Steve A} to start a band. The drummer was a show by himself, Jeremey was awesome, he is the best. If Arnel busts a guset. J could step in and blow shit up I kid you not. i missed you to Gunbot, who s the next asian girl?? i got a new roll just awaitin

Rant on

This is the big time. This isn't like Regine or Martin playing an auditorium in Pasadena, this is big business. If Arnel gets sick or injured we're talking over a hundred thousand dollars or more could be lost for a missed show. Their schedule is so tight missing 3 days for illness would be a disaster. This tour is a job that has to run like clockwork timewise. Arnel can't afford to be approachable and chatty with fans. His voice has to be kept in top form and used sparingly when he's not at work. It's the tool of his trade and must be protected. If any thing happens to him, he'll be given a check and sent home. The band aren't his family, they're his employer and he needs to remember that. If anything detrimental to his performing happens at a meet and greet, he will suffer for it. Buy a ticket and you can hear Arnel all night provided he is talking to you on stage. The rest of the time he needs to be off limits. He gave enough hometown interviews before the tour began. Now it's time for him to work.

Rant off

Steve, I hope your daughter didn't smoke whatever you have been for the past 30 years.

Peace, brother.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

$100k for a missed show. Cancelled shows would be wayyyy more than that. Do the math. Plus someone still needs to pay the venue, Heart and CheapTrick should still get their cut. Cancelling a 3 bill would be big.

...."If any thing happens to him, he'll be given a check and sent home."....

I doubt this very much, unless Arnel breaks his hip and stops returning calls!
Plus, I'm sure Deen can always take over, if it's just a one-night stand! or a week or two....no worries about the big bucks!
