Classic Rock Radio switching out JOURNEY GH for NEW !

Postby AlienC » Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:41 am

Seriously, today I was listening to 96.9 The Eagle in Sacramento and they played an Arnel Version and just called it "JOURNEY" with no addendum during the song ID.
Believe me , I know the difference between an Original Version and an Arnel Version, and it was spooky how close it was.
Anyone else hear a new version played on radio?

It would be helpful to know what song you heard played, as most of the remakes suck. I can't imagine any of our local classic rock stations would be caught dead playing those versions.

There is no way to confuse that one with the original, Only The Young maybe, but not Stone in Love.

Okay then. You clearly have never heard the original Stone In Love. Let me help you.

This version mixes the live version with the album version.

 I don't know if Onestepper is being serious, sarcastic, or if he even knows who AC is...this thread cracked me up. But that's a crock playing the rerecords over the originals though.

I'm just goofing around. If the rerecords were played, that would be serious business though 8)

The point was supposed to be, if radio is playing Journey without Steve Perry will it get SP to maybe get excited about doing something. :?

I think the only thing Perry is going to get excited about is another hike around Maui.

That leaves to be seen. I am just saying that even with all the record sales, the radio stations here only play Perry on vocals. I don't think any of the new replacements have been embraced yet. I don't think they look for a return from Perry any time soon.

I haven't heard any new Journey, especially the re-records in this region. I doubt the re-records (or the new music for that matter) will ever be embraced nationwide.

Never Walk Away was played ALOT on 3 radio stations in my area. WONE in Akron, WNCX in Cleveland, and Y103 in Youngstown...all classic rock stations.

I talked to my Mom (who lives in SW Virgina) on the phone yesterday and she was talking about hearing "Never Walk Away" on the rock stations out of Johnson City, TN and also on WROV out of Jeremey's homebase in Roanoke. She had no idea they even had a new album out and that it was doing well, nor were they touring. So add another album sale to the list, and now some nagging for me to take her to a show. "Yeah, sure Ma, let me hop my private jet, I'll be there in a bit." :P

She says, "Didn't you tell me that little lead singer guy was from China?" ... "The Philippines, Mom." ... "So he's Filipino?" ... "Most people from the Philippines are Filipino, Mom." ... "When's the next show?" ... "Tonight in Council Bluffs, IA." ... "Oh. Well, that Arnel guy, he sounds so much like Perry. I mean, I had to pull over into a parking lot and listen to this song, it was just so good. He's a very good singer."

(My Mother, the Loon.)
