My pd and I talked about this and he said no way would he ever play the redone GH. We'll play the new songs side, but not the classics being represented as NOW Journey.

I heard an on-air discussion about this early this am on our local classic rock station. Guess these guys read the boards, cause they were specifically talking about how they don't think their fan base would allow them to play the rerecords. Said they didn't want to field all the calls to the station when people start calling in to ask why they were playing a tribute bands version of a Journey song. They laughed.

It's happening here, too,, (probably the same damn National playlist)

I heard Arnel's version of DSB, and just about threw up. I would have been pretty excited to hear one of the new ones, but this is just so wrong....

they must be getting paid to do it, otherwise, why!!!!??? It's like drinking fake beer, or something.. no matter how close it sounds, it will never be as good, or have the original’s magic... and, in fact, there is just something so “Wal-mart” cheap about it… (and it really wasn't that close, as I had never heard Arnel's version, haven't heard the SP studio version in years, yet I knew instantly that it was not SP singing)

Everything is so screwed up now,, all the 'local' stations are now owned by national companies,,

Wal-Mart is somehow considered an independent label, for crying out loud, what chance does a real independent label have against such a monstrosity,,

Fewer and fewer real music lovers with control or influence anymore…

Ok that’s my rant for the day….

The new Stone In Love IS one of the best overall trax on Revelation and absolutely should get some airplay.

The gang vocals in the chorus are incredible.

Believe me , I know the difference between an Original Version and an Arnel Version, and it was spooky how close it was.
Anyone else hear a new version played on radio?

The conspiracy begins...

Like what?

To wipe out Perry.

Who's Perry? :?

Some dude that used to sing for a living, then his hip gave out so he became a wheelchair detective. I think he goes by the name of Ironside now.

Perry Como? I thought he'd passed away?
Used to like his Christmas shows when I was a kid.

Me eder. The only non-70's/80's J tunes I've heard on the local radio stations here in Rochester, NY the last 12 years have been Can't Tame the Lion and Higher Place. My cousin said Remember Me was played in Utica, NY.

New Journey played on classic rock stations

Its not that, the radio stations are not playing them. The albums are selling here. I am both a SP fan and I bought the CD. Some people like both. But I respect the ones who just like Steve. I think it is unfair to tell them they must "move on" because you like the new sound. They prefer Steve's sound overall, it is better! Arnel will have to make fans of his own. That takes time.

Care to share which song it was ?

Stone in Love

Okay then. You clearly have never heard the original Stone In Love. Let me help you.

This version mixes the live version with the album version.

What a fucking awesome mix of live and studio.

I have to say I like Arnel's vocal on it also.

Well, the Loop 97.9 FM finally played some Journey over the weekend. It's the first time in at least two months they've played a song (last time is when the played Never Walk Away one time debut). It was a deep cuts weekend. They played, "Escape" on Sunday (which I heard) and "Where Were You" on Saturday night. It's a start, I guess.

Sirius 15 plays (Beaked) Journey at least every 2 hours give or take. :D
Upwards of 8-10 times a day... and they land in the "twofer" lunch hour at least twice a week.

The other day the twofer was Separate Ways and Walks Like A Lady ( ).

I've never ever heard anything from Revelation any station, and certainly not any of those retreads.

'Who's Cryin' Now' on JACK 93.7

Postby AlienC » Sun Aug 03, 2008 3:22 am

Last night, it happened again. Those opening piano hits are the same, but the drums are a little more full, the "tails" on the reverbs are modern and AP is damn near flawless in his delivery. What gave it away to me was the straight vocal delivery without the SP embellishments.

This alone is a testimony to Mr. Azoff's reach. To be able to switch versions via commercial radio is a real coup de ta' (sic).

I've got no problem with it. I think the rerecords sound surprisingly good - Arnel is really amazing. Fuck, why not? the album is still in the top 20 after 8 weeks. the average classic rock radio listener wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway.

I can't believe that ANY Program Director in America would EVER play re-records for ANY band. Listen, I like Arnel, a lot. The fucking dude can sing his ass off. That said, his re-records are simply NOT better than the originals, period, end of story. We have some delusional yahoos on message boards who think Arnel is Perry, resurrected  He isn't! He's an immensely talented vocalist who does a very good job, singing the Journey classics.

I actually have a lot of respect for Arnel's talent. The guy is singing songs, in a language that isn't even his own, and I'm not sure many of us can appreciate just how arduous of a task that is. I took Spanish for 4 freakin' years in high school, and came out of it with "No Habla Espanol"

Someone needs to kick these Program Directors in their collective ass, and remind them of just what "classic rock" is! There is nothing "classic" about something that was recorded 17 minutes ago

Agreed. I was telling my pd about this and he absolutely laughed his ass off and said, "NO, way in hell....EVER" and then of course added, "Especially, Journey!" lmao!!

I just now realized that Arnel was in your picture. I honestly thought it was a chick  I'm starting to have flashbacks of Augeri wearing his wife's white blouse   Schon should stand near Arnel more often...He looks like a giant
