From the MIDNIGHT SPECIAL- this was the first time I ever saw Journey on TV. That's about all it took for me! Dig Perry's high note at 2:23
btw- Most of the acts on MIDNIGHT SPECIAL did play live- this was one of the many cool things about the show. I learned more about Rock and Roll watching these old shows (like this and Don K's Rock Concert) than I did in 20 years of MTV.
Yeah, loved watching those shows...and, trying to stay awake. Back in the olden days when there were only 3 channels, that is, if you had tin foil on your rabbit ear attenae!

We didn't even have a color set until around 1976 - my folks refused to buy a new one until the old B&W wore out!Between American Bandstand, the Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and even Solid Gold a little later, we had our share of music television!

We got our first color t.v. when Elvis had the Hawaii concert in 1973, I believe...that was the only reason my mom got it 'cuz it was the first thing we watched.

I think music overall was just more important to us. Don't you think? I mean I knew every song on the radio, by heart! I could sing most any song on the top 40. The teenagers I meet seem to take it or leave it. Don't get me wrong it is not all of them. But we used to eat, sleep, and breath music. My dad used to kid with me. He used to say, "If you knew your History like you knew your songs, you could be a Historian".

And lord help anyone who made me miss the "American Top 40" with Kasey Kasem! I know Ryan Seacrest does it now, but KFRC plays the old Kasem countdowns on the weekend.
Talk about memory lane - you get all the good songs AND all the junk from back in the 70s! : D
