OT: Bale kicking A in "Terminator: Salvation"

Postby Rip Rokken » Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:04 am

Was surprised to see a teaser trailer for this before The Dark Knight, and just ran across this cool photo! Hope this is a good one, and that they dispense with all the tongue-in-cheek crap re-referencing to other films that T3 did. Hope it's a good and proper reboot!

Rip, my anticipation for this film is actually growing. It sounded dreadful at first (talk about flogging a dead horse!) but the fact that they have Bale and (I believe) Helena Bonham Carter on board is a big plus. They've also cast the big Austrian dude who used to be on SON OF THE BEACH and looked like a young Arnold as...well, you figure that one out

I've also already heard a MAJOR script spoiler, that if it's true is going to have HUGE ripples in the TERMINATOR universe...

No Arnie and it's Hasta La Vista Baby Terminator for me.

I thought he was awesome in 3.

There's just something beautifully poetic about Arnie smashing a urinal swung like an axe over that female terminator's body.

Yes. ...Shithead.
He was in Barcelona last night for the Dark Knight premiere. Word on the street is that his mom (a circus carnie) and sister (a douche) are just out to extort money from him for some business they want to start. Now they're going to sell their "story" to the tabloids for the $$. This is all via what Perez Hilton just said on the radio (B96) while I was out getting macchiatos. :P

As do I -- I personally loved T3, and it had some great stuff -- but I felt it relied too heavily on in-references in past movies. After time, these things can become obligatory to the point of hurting a movie. I don't mind one or two, but want this one to be much more stripped down and fresh, like most of the "reboots" these days.

I'll be cautiously optomistic with the cast, but the director's resume leaves plenty of room for doubt--and that worries me, a lot. Would feel much more comfortable if James Cameron was in charge...or at least someone who tends to put out intelligently-scripted movies that are not your usual Hollywood popcorn-laced, check-your-brain-at-the-door summer type.

I tend to be under the impression Arnold just about single-handedly saved T3. It had its moments for sure, but overall, the script was precariously close to typical summer Hollywood blockbuster.

Yeah, good point. Why, oh why they chose friggin McG to helm this puppy I'll never know! BUT- you said it best-
"cautiously optomistic".

I can't really complain about those who think Arnie should be in the fold. Though I'm ok with a look alike ( lets face it- the dude they have looks more like Arnie from TERMINATOR 1 than Arnie himself does now!) I can see the argument.
After all, you're talking about a guy who desperately hope JJ Abrahms pulls a bait and switch and we get the SHAT back in the new STAR TREK!!!

BTW- GI JIM? They've taken down the story at the site (probably at the studio's behest). If you send me a personal email, I'll give you the scoop as I read it.

legit point. There is also the debate as to how much the T800 is actually in the film. Sounds like there is more than enough story to go around with the earlier stuff, and just bring the T800 in at the end as a teaser for the next film. I'm hoping with getting Bale to sign on that this is going to be an abomination of all things Terminator, but McG doesn't really inspire confidence.

I hope that mother and daughter extortion tandem get the same social treatment as that of the extortionist ex-wife of Paul Mcartney. I believe they will need to take shelter in the U.S. inorder to avoid those angry Brit fans.

'Terminator Salvation' clip unveiled at Comic-Con'

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080727/ap_ ... _salvation

SAN DIEGO - "Terminator Salvation" won't hit theaters until next summer, but thousands of fans got an early look at a portion of the film Saturday.

Director McG presented never-before-seen footage during a Comic-Con panel and offered a few hints about what to expect from the highly anticipated fourth installment in the "Terminator" franchise.

For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger could be back.

"The T-800 model indeed is part of the mythology of Terminator," McG said coyly, referring to the machine model California's governor played in the first three films.

James Cameron, who directed the first two "Terminator" films, and special-effects master Stan Winston, who died in June, also each had a hand in the film, McG said, adding that Winston made a cameo appearance.

"He wrestles one of the hydrobots," the director said.

The movie, now shooting in New Mexico, could end up with an R rating rather than the rumored PG-13, McG revealed.

"We put the picture first at all times," he said. "If it's an R-rated picture, it's an R-rated picture and that's that."

He acknowledged that the studio is responsible for some of the online rumors.

"We release, like everyone else does, misinformation campaigns," McG said. "One of the joys of going to the movies is not knowing what's going to happen."

The brief clip shown Saturday was filled with explosions, tanks, gas masks, guns and crushed skulls.

Set in 2018, the film is dark and apocalyptic, "exploring what the world is like after a nuclear holocaust," the director said. "We wanted everything to feel like giant Soviet tanks crushing all comers."

"Terminator Salvation," a Warner Bros. release, is set to hit theaters in May.

I've been seeing this all over the web, but I think they're making too much of it. I think McDumbass just dropped that bomb to generate hype for the picture.
Not the recent story form IMDB:
And the New Terminator is...Roland Kickinger
17 July 2008 8:48 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

[i]He's Arnold version 2.0. According to Ontario's Clinton News-Record - by way of AICN - Roland Kickinger will play the the mechanical killing machine in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. I have seen Kickinger before, oddly enough playing a character named Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yeah, turns out, in a made-for-tv movie, Kickinger played the Schwarz from his bodybuilding days into the early stages of his Hollywood career.

Granted IMDB is about as reliable as Wilipedia, but AINT IT COOL broke this two weeks ago. The inclusion of Kickenger in the cast seems to point to no Arnie. What I think might happen is that they might dub in Arnie's voice.

BUT- what do I know? I'm the guy who still thinks Shatner will show up in JJ's STAR TREK reboot!

I will say this:

As long as Mr. Bale does NOT do his "Clint Eastwood" impersonation that I heard in "The Dark Knight" (which BTW was incredible BECAUSE of Heath Ledger and NOTHING ELSE...)

THEN it MIGHT be OK! LOL

Nora, come on! At least you have to give props to Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman! They were both freaking fantastic!

Ok- that's all! I'm done defending this movie! With over 310 million in 2 weeks, they can take care of themselves, dammit!

Even WITH Arnold, you could tell a certain post-mortem stink had begun to seep in with T3.
No Ed Furlong, no Linda Hamilton, and worst of all, no James Camerson handling directing duties.
As an action movie, it was damn good, but nowhere near the celebrated pop-culture event it should have been.

This flick looks decent, but when was the last time McG made a movie that was worth watching?

well, "it's not a RUMOR" that this will be a great flick, annoying factors and absentees notwithstanding. it's a great story--Arnold will be missed, as was Linda and James, but Christian brings the possiblitlty of greatness back to the table. I can't wait.

I agree- T3, while mildly watchable, was pretty craptacular. Personally, I think the problem WAS Arnold. Since when do Terminators get botoxed?? The guy looked more like one of Madame Tossaud's statues come to life than a killing machine!
Personally, I hope they get that Austrian cat that LOOKS like Arnold (from SON OF THE BEACH) as AICN reported they were a few months back. I also agree with CDL that the inclusion of Bale in the cast gives this film credibility that the last one simply didn't have.
And yeah, so far McG has been a hack, but remember...at one time, pre Terminator, the best film Cameron had done was Piranha II!!! So I'll give the boy some slack...if only he'd change that goofy ass name!
