OT: The Nelsons in concert

Postby Blueskies » Sun Jul 27, 2008 3:32 pm

I went and saw the Nelson twins do a tribute show to their father tonight! They did their fathers tunes and some of their own..as well as a couple covers of others folks songs, like Elvis. They went overtime..played for well over 2 hours....then they signed autographs for everyone afterwards...they asked my name and personalized it with love which was sweet. After the meet and greet was over we got together for a pic. It was a good show...and they did their father proud on his tunes. It was fun..I enjoyed it. :)

I asked them if it was cool if I posted some pics on Melodicrock....Matthew said, "sure, as long as their good ones"....Well, sorry Matthew...pics aren't that great..but that's on me....not you guys, you looked great!...sorry, a couple are blurry but otherwise ok.......except for the one with me and J.P. and the one with y'all....someone else took those and didn't know how to operate my camera.....I should have checked them before I left because, unfortunitely their super blurry...ugh! :( ...but..sure was fun to meet you both! Thanks! :)

oh yeah....Andrew!...Gunner and Matthew told me to tell you hello!....so, Hello from them! 8)

Thank you sir!
Right now there is an absolute desire to do another show...and several ideas...but right now the economics of such an event makes it impossible.
I did the first without any major sponsorship at all and would need a lot fo things to fall into place for a second show to be done. Plus a real headline act that would draw in fans on their own (that I could afford!)

Stay tuned, but no ETA at this stage.

Yessir! Though I really liked the variety of acts. I will happily stay tuned!

Really Andrew, South Bend was a once in a lifetime event. If you do decide to move forward with another one I don't know how you could top the original! But I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Gunner's on the left (shorter hair), Matthew on the right. Just like my twin son's.....it's easier to tell in person.... you can see the differences and know who is who.

I told them I had tickets for South Bend but couldn't make it...sorry I missed it...they said that was too bad because it was a great show...they said they had a blast doing it.
Gunner told me that they will be jamming with Jeff again at the Mohican Sun.....I think he said October 3rd......do you have any info on that?....I'm sure he said October but is the 3rd correct? Any other info on that gig?

Nope, not a carnival...was at a car dealership....in the parking lot!....don't think they sold a single car....but hey,...can't fault 'em for that....it was a Ford dealership .....

2nd year they where there...don't know why,, didn't ask them..maybe their friends with the owner,,,who knows...for real, though....regardless of where it was they put on a good show and had a big crowd...just not a paying one.. ..guess they can't really get a tribute show of their dads music into venues...they don't have the drawing power, especially with the music their playing so their playing where they can..at least got paid by the dealership, I assume...

...but, they sold a lot of cd's....they should have had some other merchandise available because that would have sold as well...t-shirts or something...something with their dad on it too as well as their own...even something on Ozzie and Harriet...really needed to be marketing some of that stuff if they have the rights to....lots of old folks there being nostalgic....BUT...there was a young woman near me who named all her kids after them...had one named Gunner, one Matthew and even one named OZZIE! ....that freaked me out....when she told that to Matthew and Gunner I'm sure it kinda freaked them out as well ...so the circle of the family continues to the next generations..

...but anyway...they put on a good show...they talked a lot about their family...it was a very sweet tribute to their father and they sang well on his songs..sound a lot like him. 8)

What a neat thing for them to do...love Ricky Nelson songs. At JSS's show last month I chatted with Cyndy's friend about The Nelsons (you should see her tatoo honoring them)...and, how they found out about their father's death on the radio. Sad. I remember that night hearing the news. I have a book somewhere by their mother, Kris. It's mostly an art book (she paints in the folk art tradition) and some autobio. They come from beautiful stock...Ozzie & Harriet (if you see pics of them in the 1930s), David Nelson, Mark Harmon (uncle), their aunt was a model on the Tic Tac commercials, their grandparents Elyse (model, artist) & Tom Harmon...in fact, I have an old home decorating magazine 1940s with them featured in it...Kris Nelson is about 6 yrs. old.

I'm not really into getting autographs...don't make a real big effort to obtain them..but when the opportunity is available sometimes I'll stick around and get one on occasion....so, over the years I've gotten some here and there but I've given most of them away...I even had a FTLOSM publicity still that Steve Perry autographed which was authenticated..... I sent that one to Dean and Lula..along with some other stuff....figured at the time with all the trouble going on with her pregnancy that it would be a little something to help put a smile on their faces and hopefully lift their spirits a little.....so it's not that I don't like the autographs I get or don't appreciate them...Perry's meant a lot to me...it's just that I enjoy giving to other's I care about when I can..when I know that they would enjoy and appreciate having it ....that it would make them happy to have it. Guess I'm going to be keeping the Nelsons though since it was personalized......don't know anyone else with my name
