It would have been nice to hang out longer, but it was great meeting you. Darnit, I meant to take a look at the dress you won. Deb's keychain was cool.

Poor Rosalinda, not a good way to spend a birthday. I'm glad she's ok.

As much as I'd love to see it happen I'm a realist and don't see One More in the set list any time soon. Arnel has to work on and better himself with the core songs first before moving on to more obscure songs. I'm hopeful that the tour next year will feature a few obscure songs. If it's not a coincidence and the guys really are reading the board that fuckin' rocks. I'd love to see Journey reach out to Andrew and throw him a bone in the form of something exclusive like a short interview or some potential future plans. In the end, Journey and Andrew, and the general melodicrock community in general, make a helluva team!!! Arnel interview?

Another spectacular show in Houston...

Hot as blazes, sold out, rocking the roof off the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion.

Highlights:

Deb motioning Arnel over so she could retie his tennis shoe mid song...on the screen for 20,000 people...

The reception the songs from Revelation are getting from the crowd, particularly Wildest Dream...

Jon had on a decent looking shirt...

Yaz was back...asked Jon about the cameo from the whale the night before and he said San Antonio was incredibly hot & humid and he was trying to protect the new guy...

Hanging with the rest of the die hard fans who have slogged through all the Schutt of the past several years with this band and are hanging in there to enjoy the ride for as long as we are blessed to have it.

A few pics below:

Image 3 Generations of beautiful Texas women (Deb's daughter Shannon and baby Emerson)

Image Our five star group--Barb, my sis Sandie, me & Deb, Ken & his friend Nancy; Val was MIA in this pic for some reason...

Image Front row rawks & so does ILAA

Image Private guitar lesson from Nancy Wilson

Image I think I have a girl crush on Debbie Shair

Image Ann Wilson is the best rock vocalist out there; I'm just in awe

And the Journey guys in truly fine form:

Image Image Image Image Image

Setlist:

Never Walk Away
Only the Young
Stone in Love
Ask the Lonely
After All These Years
Separate Ways
Change for the Better
Lights
Open Arms
Faithfully
Rubicon
Wildest Dream
Wheel in the Sky
Any Way You Want It

Encores:

Escape
LTS
Don't Stop Believin'

Gayle, Jen, Dan, Rip, Rhi, Rick, Lynn, Melissa -- we are on the way; hope there is something left of the place by the time we get there...

Having a blast so far, and for some reason, have forgotten that the Internet even existed. Turned out it had become a repressed memory that had to be unearthed by a local shrink, and now I'm having near total recall. Don't I know some of you folks?

Image

Anyway, had a KILLER time at B.A./Foreigner last night, and only Lynn, Melissa and myself ended up going. Had a short bit of scrambling once I remembered my tickets weren't "will call", but had been e-mailed and printed a few MONTHS ago, and I'd forgotten them! Took me about 15-20 wasted minutes to correct this, and we arrived just at showtime.

I was really looking forward to our great seats near the front, until I realized they were on the TAIL END of the left side of the stage, directly in front of the very LOUD end speakers and where a large black tarp obscured a major portion of the stage -- why would they even sell these?!? But no worries -- a little help from friends, and we were able to upgrade our spot multiple times and ended up with much better seats.

B.A. opened and KICKED A! His performance was flawless, and he even invited a fan up to sing with him for a song -- you know that made that girl's year!

Foreigner kicked MAJOR A, and I about busted a nut when Mick Jones intruduced "Jeff Pilson of DOKKEN"... haha! That was the only former band he mentioned.

We met up with Jrnycms and JourneyCat of the official Journey board as well, and they were rocking out! We'll see them again, too! Thanks for the seat upgrades, my friends!

Lynn is being incredibly gracious..... I hated the seats, but she did actually have a good spot for taking pictures and seemed to like not being crowded in with a bunch of other people -- they were all sitting in better seats, leaving us to have our own private little VIP area in front of the speakers, where we got the firstfruits of the sound before it hit every one else's ears. In fact, I think our bodies absorbed about 30% of the sound before it hit anyone else's ears.... haha.

"once Pineda kicked into Journey's fist-pumping catalog, the crowd quickly warmed and began to party like it was 1981. (One front-row female even tied his shoelace midway through a song.)"

LOVE IT!!! Let me tell ya, Mimi is fearless! Glad it wasn't me, because after watching Arnel last night, I'm not fit to tie that man's shoes... haha!

san antonio LATE gig report and youtube clips

i was in san antonio that night for the journey's 9th of 9 soldout concert with cheap trick and heart.

7:00 pm. so many folks still walking around, checking out souvinirs, food, drinks... etc. cheap trick came on stage and showed their wares and the hundreds of guitar in stock. can't get enough of them changing from one guitar to another after almost every song. cool to see and they did so well in the opening act. got a short clip at the beginning of the flame. i wanted to record as many videos as possible but i was trying to conserve the remaining battery in the camera. besides, i wasn't expecting to be able to take in the small AF7x optical zoom, and i was on the lawn. lol!

8:00 pm, seats are about over half taken, people started going to their seats as heart pounded the verizon wireless amphitheater with powerful vocals and great music. sun is setting along with ann wilson's power and beautiful vocals, coupled with nancy's magnificent guitar and the rest of the band's.

it was, i guess, a show to remember for HEART as the crowd was on its feet for the encore. ann graciously appreciated the fans for the tremendous ovation... barracuda rocked the place! glad they did that song.

the J-boys were scheduled to take the stage at 9:25 pm. but took a while for the crew to set up THE WHALE. at 9:37, a resounding sound marks the beginning of the main show. NWA puts everyone on its feet. as pineda strides to the center from the backstage, the crowd roar, and rock and roll has officially started!

tried to type the setlist on the cellphone but lost track after about five songs. how can you do such things (recording, typing, watching, rocking and rolling) all at the same time? lol... multi-tasking at its best.

the J-BOYS!

everyone seemed so relaxed and pretty much accurate, except for a few minor glitches. not even recognizable until i watched my clips. but hey, this is LIVE!

ROSS - has showed his vintage self of entertaining and being accurate on his 4-strings. he manages to interact with fans with his funny faces that were caught on the big screen.

DEEN - never ceases to amaze with his back-up vocals and his drumming skills, not only he was accurate but also puts his heart into it by making those gracious moves behind the cymbals and drums.

JON - back on the WHALE (i'm not exactly sure if it was the FAZ or the WHALE, but it looks like a WHALE, lol) but faz or whale, cain is cain and he ca(i)ns those songs. he was all over the place when on guitars and so soulful on piano. nice treat after faithfully, coming into open arms. harmonica adds more flavor to the show. at one point he was playing tug of war over the harmonica... haha!

NEAL - needless to say, the main guy on guitars. incomparable talent! how can not drop your jaw watching/hearing him? keeps reminding me that this is journey, baby... journey, and neal provides that signature sound... the licks, the accuracy on changing from one sound to the next makes me wonder how he does it. adding the fact that he manages to entertain both ends of the stage.

ARNEL - well, everything has been said. what i significantly notice from san antonio's show was his aura. he was very relaxed! he shows so much confidence and interacts well. though he may need to enunciate more when he speaks to the crowd. didn't really understand a few of the words he said to the crowd. could be that i was on the lawn, but even some of the people around me were like: "what he said?" i would reply, "he said, we love us all!" or "for those on the lawn." lols.

as for his vocal prowess, forget about him not lasting the tour. unless he gets sick with some virus or something, he is doing just fine. last night show was a piece of cake. he could have done another 2 MORE hours without any problem, and do houston and dallas the next two nights... i'll say it again: PIECE OF CAKE!

demographics:

i had a pretty good view of the crowd. got there at 5pm, in line and got in at around 5:30. there was only about 10% asians. was expecting more but... hey! it's SOLDOUT!
i saw a lot of kids towed by their parents. a few strollers, a few on crutches and one wheel chair... lol!

on the lawn were different age groups. on my right was this rocking latino family who seem to know all the dirty dozen, seated when new songs were played. farther right was this group of young people, in their teens, who were dancing in all the songs, including the ballad... when DBS was played, they pumped their fists and went crazy! they've recorded a lot of songs and hoping that they upload them on youtube.

check my crappy clips:

http://www.youtube.com/user/onthiscorner

so much for this tired fingers. gotta go.

keep on rocking guys!

marie, i forgot to save your cell number. i checked around for the "bat flag" but to no avail... next time.

About that Dallas show...

Another kick-ass performance by all three bands, another sold out venue, another hot summer Texas night. Pretty much as close to heaven as a rock fan gets...

Nancy Wilson dedicated These Dreams to Arnel. Truly a sniff-worthy moment.

More rumors of extending the tour to Pacific Asia...

And the pre-show and post-show partying with the MR peeps was stellar; car ride to the venue sounded like the laugh track to an 80s sitcom. If Gayle's hubby's current gig ever goes south, he could make a living doing standup...

a few pics:

Finally, somewhat mysteriously, we kept running into signs from above on the drive to and from Gayle's:
